As I understand it, everybody buys California cars these days, there is no
49 state version, with anotheer version for us.

This is a common problem. Mine is leaking also. Maybe we can take the angle

Well, we are in Michigan, where emissions are not an issue, so I am screwed.
I took it to the dealer, who said "Yepp, its the manifold" and then
Chrysler, who offered to split it with me. Now, upon recalculation, it is
2000 miles and 18 months over warranty (99 Jeep). I still think my Leasing
dealer (who has moved and changed names) may help cover the other 500, we
shall see. Looks like they would be in for a penny, i.e. if they admit it
prematurely dies, they should pay for it all, but I guess 500 is better than
nothing. No more Jeeps for me..

Nice picture. A guy I was trying to teach to drive did something like that
with a Honda 600 aircooled sedan once. Brr!!! I'd like to see you try it

Hi Dave,
I have a problem with Chrysler, now Daimler not standing behind a
known problem such as their cracking exhaust manifolds, especially when
they have taken steps to correct it with the added bellows. I can't
think of a problem that Ford or Chevrolet has had, that's been as
consistent. Chrysler's f**ked up manifolds are probably the reason their
383", 426", and 440" have long since died off, there's plenty of old
Ford, and Chevy muscle car left.

It is funny, now the Jeep is at least 50% quieter than it has EVER been.
Almost cant hear engine sounds well enough to work the 5 speed. I feel that
whatever they did, the manifold was not replaced with the same part that
they removed. Perhaps a "new and improved" one? All I know is I checked 3
times to see if it was the same Jeep as I drove down the road, and I knew
that it was my jeep!

Swear them off completely? maybe I was harsh, but 500 bucks on a car with
38000 on it tells you one thing: I am used to driving Japanese cars, this
being my first American vehicle. I had a CRX with 105000 on it, no problems,
a Miata I put 40000 on, no problems, and a Eclipse with 110000, no problems.
Jeep 38000=problems.
And I am not smart enough or technical enough to replace things like the
manifold, so I am a victim to the dealership when problems arise...
