99 Cherokee Oil Pressure too high-help
I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee with 150,000 miles on it. Runs good and
still has lots of life in it, I hope. A couple of days ago the oil pressure began to register about 80lbs compared to what has been about 40lbs normally. Now today the check engine light went on. Jeep still runs fine, oil level is normal and not contaminated. What gives?????? Anyone, please got some ideas. I hate to go to the dealer until the last resort and then only with some knowledge perhaps someone will share. Thanks, in advance, Dan |

The sending units are very poorly made and fail all the time.
A pin out implies the connection might be just loose. If the connection is still tight, you can pull it off and ground it to see if the gauge moves. If the gauge moves, then it's time for a new sender. They are cheap and easy to replace. Just be careful putting the new one in and don't use anything like teflon tape on them because it can interfere with the ground path. If you use a thread seal or lube, loctite is good or pipe dope if you have plumbing supplies. You shouldn't really need anything on the threads. Re: 99 Cherokee Oil Pressure too high-help
I recently had the same problem on my '96 Cherokee. Put a mechanical gauge
on it to make sure the pressure is ok. It may be the sending unit, but I put a new one in and it didn't help. Because an open circuit registers as high pressure there could be a break in the wire or a loose connection at the dash. Mine still isn't working right, haven't had the time to open the dash, but putting a mechanical gauge on it at least gave me peace of mind. Everyone has been very helpful here on this forum... --Rocky On 2/26/06 7:54 AM, in article 1140969275.706851.164440@p10g2000cwp.googlegroups. com, "dwgrulke@mindspring.com" <dwgrulke@mindspring.com> wrote: > I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee with 150,000 miles on it.
