'98 XJ Power Steering question
RE: '98 XJ 4.0, power steering When maneuvering at slow speeds - not at the fully-locked positions - the steering is hard and I hear something that sounds like the power steering fluid swishing about. I have replaced the fluid, but it persists. Question: Is my probelm more likely to be the power steering pump, the steering gear, or something else? Thanks for your help in keeping me from changing-out unnecessary parts. Jim |
Re: '98 XJ Power Steering question
Hi Jim,
Are you using Real power steering fluid: http://www.----------.com/PSFluid.jpg Someone may have snuck in Auto Transmission Fluid, which foams and screws up the sensing clutch/valve. If you have air in the steering box, and you feel it stick while turning left only, you will have to bleed it by loosening the top three bolts just enough to let the air past the O ring seal: http://www.----------.com/97TJpowersteering.pdf God Bless America, Bill 0|||||||0 mailto:-------------------- <98XJ> wrote in message news:k2il23p4avum4cq9sq041p0aaohbk1d2fj@4ax.com... > > RE: '98 XJ 4.0, power steering > > When maneuvering at slow speeds - not at the fully-locked positions - > the steering is hard and I hear something that sounds like the power > steering fluid swishing about. Bill,
Thanks for the reply. It's MOPAR P.S. Fluid from the dealer. I will try bleeding it.
