97 ZJ Power Window Stuck
Great news, even though it is raining heavily, the front passenger
window is stuck up. Still can pay tolls and use the drive ins. Good news, I have the shop manual, the electrical circuits and the computer controller for the right are working. I can even hear the motor do a soft click. The linkage appears to be jammed in the up position. Hands, crowbar and mallet don't loosen it up, even with the lower track and motor mounting bolts really loose. The pivot at the X appears free, there is NO rust anywhere. The shop manual assumes that the window is down as that is where the clearance holes are to disconnect the glass. Before I drill new clearance holes and disconnect the glass has anyone had this problem? A google search indicates that there may be a door ground problem on the ZJ? I'm a bit concerned that I won't be able to flatten the X arm linkage to get the motor/linkage assembly out of the door. Thank in advance. |

It's very unusual for glass to get stuck in the track or for the mechanism to jam unless the door has been hit in a wreck. > Before I drill new clearance holes and disconnect the glass has anyone > had this problem? > > A google search indicates that there may be a door ground problem on > the ZJ? Easy enough to test with a jumper cable. Another faulty location is the door harness connector getting corroded. > I'm a bit concerned that I won't be able to flatten the X arm linkage > to get the motor/linkage assembly out of the door. Have you tried running the gear backwards to lower the window? I haven't messed with mine before so don't know if that is even possible. -- DougW |
