97 TJ Transmission slipping problems HELP!

Folks,

I have a 1997 TJ SE with an automatic transmission that is
giving me headaches. The TJ has ~105k miles on it. I have changed the
tranny fluid/filter every 20k miles.

It seems that when the jeep is cold, the transmission will slip totally
for 1/2 a second up to 5 seconds when going from neutral to first.
It only occurs when the jeep is cold. Starting out from traffic lights
and such doesnt cause it once its warmed up. The transmission doesnt
make any other sounds or display any other symptoms that I can tell. All the
other gears work fine as it automatically shifts through them. About 8 months
ago it was happening also, and I had a transmission guy look at it. He
tightened it up (unfrotunatly I didnt get specifics as to what he did) and it
worked good for 8 months. Now its starting to occur again. I guess something
needs to be replaced but I be damed if I could diagnose the problem. I know
less then squat about tranmissions.

Any ideas what could be the problem? Any tranmission experts out there?
I would like to try to fix this myself since I dont have a lot of money
right now (New baby, New house).

Thanks for any help you can offer..
Mike

Thanks Bill.. adding 1 pint solved it. It was at the bottom of the
"ok" section on the dip stick. I guess I have a slow leak somewhere.

Thanks,
Mike
