97 TJ Loose Shifter problem

just noticed yesterday that there is an excessive amount of play in the
shifter(trans, not 4x4) while switching gears. even while in gear the
stick wobbles around quite a bit. I dont know if it happened all at
once, but i just started noticing it yesterday. Someone told me loose
mounting bolts on the t-case? any help would be great!

97 tj, 2.5l manual

thanks
Reed

Not quite sure of the exact symptoms you're describing but if you don't
mean a "sloppy" feel to the shifter and the stick is just moving around
a lot on its own, it's probably either a broken motor mount or tranny mount.

Re: 97 TJ Loose Shifter problem

no not on its own, it does have that really sloppy feel, more than
before. There is a lot less resistance when moving the stick side to
side. even while engaged in a gear.

Hi Reed,
Your shift lever should be very loose, but not sloppy, like you
could put it in two gears at ounce. You may need the tower bushing,
