'96 XJ Electrical problem

My '96 XJ has developed a nasty habit of blowing the fuse for all
the gages. (fuse #17)
If I replace the fuse, all is well for a day or so, then no gages.

Since I will soon need to refuel (I think) I figure it might be time
to check it out.

I have no data, but figure that most of the sensors are single
wire grounding type, so the short must be in the feed harness
to the instrument cluster.
Any ideas where to start?

My sub-standard copy of the Haynes manual has a dismal diagram,
so I was hoping that someone here may have either another brand,
or better yet a factory service manual to either scan, or sell to me.

Thanks!

Tom
