95 Cherokee Sport -- cold starting problem

My 95 Cherokee Sport 4.0 has begun to have erratic starting problems.
Sometimes it fires right up. But other times, it takes 5 - 15 attempts
before it catches. Once in a while it simply wonıt start at all. In those
cases Iıve left it for a day and then next day, it started.

Conditions:
It didnıt begin doing this until mid-Oct. when overnight temps dropped into
the 50s.
It only does it when the engine is dead cold (It starts fine when fully hot
or simply after running for 10-15 min. you can shut it off, come back a
while later and it will fire right up).
It doesnıt always do it. Sometimes, you can start it from dead cold and it
will fire right up.

When the problem occurs, sometimes:
-- the starter cranks strong but the engine just doesnıt fire, or
-- the starter cranks strong and then the engine begins to fire but as soon
as you let off the starter it wonıt catch and dies, or
-- often it can be solved by holding the pedal to the floor. But sometimes,
when you do that, it begins to catch and then stops when you let off the
starter.

It seems that when the outdoor temp is super cold (35 or so) the likelihood
of the engine firing right up increases.

Any ideas?

can't help you with your problem, sorry, but just a warning that not

Firstly, please post in text format. html is annoying to some
folks and they won't bother responding.

Now, pull the codes and tell us what the computer thinks the
problem is. http://members.cox.net/wilsond/engine_codes.html

You could have a faulty coil, CPS sensor failing, corroded ground,
fuel leakdown, or any other number of problems. This is for the
93 ZJ, yours may differ. http://members.cox.net/wilsond/cps/
http://members.cox.net/wilsond/Fixes...sensor-crankps

Right now I'm tending to think CPS sensor. But check the other
things first. That's a pain in the ass to get at.
