'91' XJ: Rear differential/axle noise
I'm occasionally getting some strange chattering noise when I make turns to
the left or right from the rear of my Jeep. I'm pretty sure it's coming from the differential. I'm going to try and add a bottle of the trak-loc additive but the differential was rebuilt about a year ago so I'm wondering what the hell is going on. Do the trak loc clutch plates wear out that fast? -- there is no .sig |

Hi Doug,
That's why they sell the friction modifier: http://www.----------.com/frictionModifer.jpg and why Daimler calls for four ounces of it on change: http://www.----------.com/frictionModifer.jpg page seven. Worn clutches do not make noise, they're just screaming for the additive. Re: '91' XJ: Rear differential/axle noise
Clutch plates do wear out but probably not that fast. The rebuild shop
may have not used a gear lube with the required friction modifier additive. I'd add one small bottle, usually around 4 oz., of friction modifier and see if it helps. Or if you are going to also change the lube, just make sure the fresh gear lube says "compatible with limited slip differentials" which means it has the required friction modifier already added.
