90 YJ Speedo Cable Question

Hi all.

A quick question on the speedometer cable for a 90 YJ. My speedometer
needle has started jumping at low speeds and clicks when initially starting
out. So I figure I need to pull the inner cable out of the cable jacket and
lube it. However, I unclipped the cable from back of the speedometer head
and tried to extract the inner cable with a pair of needle nose pliers. It
wouldn't budge. Then I removed the cable from the transfer case and tried
to push it up. It still would not move. Does anybody know if the inner
cables is designed to be removed from the outer jacket (so that they can be
lubed), or do I just need to replace the entire cable (or do I just need to
pull harder)?

Thanks

Re: 90 YJ Speedo Cable Question

It should have come out the speedometer end, must be coming apart
and the frayed cable knurled the sheath, essentially riveting it in
place. I'd give a good pull, what do you have to loose.
