89 Cherokee 4.0L Crank Position Sensor?

In doing some research, this article caught my attn

http://www.motor.com/MAGAZINE/Articles/022003_06.htm

What type of CPS is used on the 89 Cherokee 4.0L? Something other than
3-wire Hall-Effect (am trying to figure out how engine was able to run
with reversed wires)?

Thank you,
Lance

The CPS is just a two-wire output that would work equally well with the
wiring reversed... it is producing an AC signal.
