88 Cherokee swapping under body drivetrain issues

I have a new 88 wagoneer (still got the 88 cherokee)

Great engine with only 117,000 miles on it (hard to find this low mileage an
88 anymore) and it purrs nicely.

the interior is PERFECT everything works except cruise and air (compressor)

but the underside. Can you say royal rust hell. My god was this on the ocean
floor !! thankfully the frame had a coating on it so its ok but everything
else. Wow.

I replaced every single braking part on the vehicle from the proprotioning
valve to the wheels :-) at least i know I got good brakes now.

anyway I found what might be sweet donor vehicle at a junkyard. not a spot
of rust (89 cherokee)

I want to take the COMPLETE axle assemblies and everything connected to or
touching them and simply move them to my truck.

does the gearing (not sure what either are) matter if I am moving both the
front and back as a set ?

Thanks

Nope, you just want the axles to be the same gears, front and rear. The
lower the gears the better of course ;)

I'll pipe in on this one, too... ;)
As long as the axles are from the same truck, you should have no gear
issues. Be sure you're not trading down, though. The gear codes should be
on the rear differential. I don't know them, but you should be able to find
the info in the technical section of www.ifsja.org. If you currently have
the Dana 44 axles, don't trade them for the AMC rear. The D44s are
reasonably strong for FSJs, but the AMCs might be a little weak without some
mods. (You know, IIRC, the AMC rear was only available up to 80, so that
shouldn't be an issue.)
Other than that, everything else should bolt up.
Be careful of junkyard parts. Examine them carefully for signs of damage,
internal rusting, or leakage. There was a good article in JP magazine
recently about what to look for when doing junkyard shopping. If I can find
it, I'll post the month.
Have fun.
