76 cj steering wheel removal

Actually, I need to remove the internals. There is a round ring that holds
a round plate in place that is under the steering wheel. There is no
picture or instructions in the Haynes manual for this. Does anyone have a
link to or a picture of the exploded view of this?

Thanks

Chip

That is called a GM lockplate. There is a special tool for removing and
installing it or you can push down really hard while someone digs the
lock ring out.

Most auto parts stores have the special tool available for loan.
