4 different starters?

My starter is sticking sometimes so I figured I'd best replace
it before the wife gets stranded again.
I was checking on prices and there are 4 different ones ranging in price from $85 to $160
What gives last time I did one on my bronco there was just 1 to chose from,
What gives?

Some are house brand rebuilt, some are better rebuilt, top one sounds
like new.

Re: 4 different starters?

They make 'rebuilt' starters and 'remanufactured' starters plus if you
want to get real fancy 'new' starters. The new starter is more like
$4-600.00 though, so you are looking at the others.

Most are rebuilt which means they opened them and replaced only the dead
or worn out parts and hopefully maybe cleaned it and greased it while it
was open.

Remanufactured means they used the case and core and put all new guts
in. That 'might' be the story for the $160.00 one, but that isn't a
sure thing.

I have recently gotten 'remanufactured' Jeep starter that still had a
bad nose bushing in it. This destroyed my ring gear. Sure the
'starter' had a warranty, but it didn't include the cost of removing the
engine to replace the destroyed ring gear.....
