Is there a chance the deck of the block is not true? If the block is
warped it might be causing it to happen. I have 2 4.0L jeeps...and neither
head has cracked (knock on wood).

post) and driving Jeeps with 4.0s since 1998. Cracked heads appear to be
very, very rare.

Your mechanic may have been just shooting the breeze.

business. They true up block decks to take up minor irregularities and to
achieve a higher degree of squareness than the factory did.
I suspect he has a different leak somewhere else and that his mechanic
doesn/t know jack. Cracked heads on 4.0's is definately not a common
problem. I did notice one thing when putting a 4.o back together once that
may be a clue. All of the head bolts call for 110 lbs on the torque wrench
except for the left front which is 100. Could be a weakness in the gasket
at this point and prone to leaking at that corner.

I suspect he has a different leak somewhere else and that his mechanic
doesn/t know jack. Cracked heads on 4.0's is definately not a common
problem. I did notice one thing when putting a 4.o back together once that
may be a clue. All of the head bolts call for 110 lbs on the torque wrench
except for the left front which is 100. Could be a weakness in the gasket
at this point and prone to leaking at that corner.
