258 with t150 to 258 with ford T18 conversion
I think I asked this before a long time ago...
But I need a new clutch for a 258 that had a T150 tranny, but replaced it with a ford 2wd T18. I need to replace the clutch because the one I bought 2 years ago is the wrong pressure plate driven disk combination. What clutch should I get ? The same one as for a 258 with a T150 ? or do I need something different. thanks, Ron |

If you were just talking about the Jeep Borg Warner T-150 and T-18
I would say no problem in that they are both use 1 1/8" by ten splines, but bringing Ford into this throws that out the window, as I know Ford uses a course and fine splines just on their T-10s: http://www.----------.com/t10inputs.jpg I think you're going have to disassemble and take what you have down your local Mom and Pop parts store that's been there for eons, like where the Hot Rodders go, to match up. Just try and keep an eleven inch disk if that's what you have on the wheel. Re: 258 with t150 to 258 with ford T18 conversion
Ok, thanks,
here's the thing though. that clutch was put in AFTER the conversion, and it was not the right one. So what I am looking for is basically someone who can tell me what pressure plate and what disk to get. I have a '79 CJ5 that had a T150. Now it has a Ford 2wd T18. (The borg warner thing). I was told I can use a "standard" clutch for a '79 CJ. However if the input shaft of the T150 is 1 1/8 and the T18 shaft is 1 1/16 then I have a problem...right ? So can i get the pressure plate for the '79 CJ5 ? and the clutchdisk from a "something else" ? or do I need something totally different ? Oh and btw...I have to take it apart anyway.. the clutch I put in is not working because the disk is dragging even when the clutch is released. thanks, Ron. Re: 258 with t150 to 258 with ford T18 conversion
Hi Ron,
Hot Rodder swap disks all the time. One problem is that a high performance pressure plate will use a thinner, lighter disk. Like a disk made for a truck won't clear the depressed fingers of a Scheifer plate. But you may see the possibilities at the Ford disks: http://www.coximport.com/daikin/ford.html and Jeep: http://www.coximport.com/daikin/jeep.html The thickness at the dampener springs have to match the one for the pressure plate. Good luck.
