Preparing for Fall & Winter?

Hello TO all ! Since it is quiet in here and not much posting, How do you prepare your KJ and equip for winters?:UDONT:
After last year with numerous snow storms, I was given a new wide ice scraper/brush. Also a steel dustpan that can be used to scoop snow away (and small in size)
Replaced wiper blades to winter type.
Removed DOT3 brake fluid from reservoir and put fresh 3 fluid in.
Topped up antifreeze with HOAT and good to -45.
Purchased winter windshield washer fluids. (could not find any at height of storm)
Added Ultra Tape 900 candle power-(Can Tire Red reflective tape) horizontal along bumper strip.
New Spark Plugs and Air Filter, cleaned throttle body.
Checked tire pressure on Silent Armor Kevlar Tires.
Wish List: Weathertech Digital fit floor mats and lights to illuminate them.
Extra lighting on push bar up front. ( Have PIAA Extreme White in Headlamps)
Louder horn !
Well that is it from here..safe driving to all this winter. What are you planning?

Just doing the regular winterizing, change the fluids, tuneup, put the winter survival gear in the back, etc
Check to make sure the block heater is working.

Re: Preparing for Fall & Winter?

want to know what sucks about my jeep... the heat sucks with a 160 degree thermostat, sure it kicks in quicker, but isn't anywhere near as warm as the stock t-stat... and there's NO insulation in my doors... none what so ever... (i bought it in the southern part of the states)

undercoat has to get put on as i'll be up all winter this year, and northern NB is terrible for salt, sooo i've got to spray my under body down in the states as its much cheaper here! my buddy has all the gear and is going to do it for the cost of material and let me do it myself...

i'm going to put some insulation into my doors to help keep the cold out... and put in a block heater in before i head back up in Oct/Nov.
hopefully winter gets to a late start, i've got all sorts of winter gear up in New Brunswick. my chains and all that fun recovery gear... id hate to need any of it on my way up... since i have to go threw no mans land (Saint Quentin - Campbellton) in order to get home... i've done that in snowstorms before, its not fun since it can be hours before you see another car coming thru...(well at night anyways...)

that and i might be making a winter drive out to Alberta or BC...

Re: Preparing for Fall & Winter?

When it hit -18 C last year in Vancouver, I thought I was driving a rolling refrigerator. At home I had cleared the snow, and have a GM 120volt car heater that warms up the body in a few hours. Then with no plug in at work, get off a 2 am, hop in, and hope for heat. My foot well felt like my toes were in a ice house. Could not roll down the windows they were frozen solid.
The armrest was so cold that I think my wet shirt sleeve stuck and froze to it.
What kind of insulation are you thinking about putting in the doors? Spray Urethane? Styrofoam or the car padding stuff?

ya im down here in ontario. wethers not to cold. better not be this year. see how cold a yj gets. it has no where to put insulation. the outer body metal is the interior as well.

on another note i put my 30/9.50s on..
yuck! looks likw an 12" lift now. squacks the tires tho. ya 2.5

Re: Preparing for Fall & Winter?

what i plan on doing is removing all interior panels, and putting it on the doors outer sheetmetal, and above the headliner.

what it is wool felt about 3/4" thick, cut it to fit and spray some adhesive and slap it in... I dont plan to add it to the floor since it'll just be that much more to try and dry when water gets in... (my buddy works at an fabrics plant, and already has a ton of this stuff from when they weren't able to recycle it...)

but in the doors it should keep me nice and toasty, and reduce road noise when the windows are up... all thats in there is that thin vinyl junk...

Good Luck with the project. I am sure it will be much better insulated. I have used felt hair pad, which is also flame retardant, for sound insulations on walls before.Warm and quiet, got mine at a carpet wholesaler. Post some photos in here if you can of the installation process!
cheers:beerchug:

Re: Preparing for Fall & Winter?

Sadly not putting on any true winter tires but did throw on 4 new Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's on the Jeep Limited Liberty. Hard to find many tires for 235/65/17. Needed too for Southern Ontario and Bancroft areas that I drive around in. Snowmobiling in the Bancroft area is too much fun to pass up!
