PIAA Replacement Headlight Bulbs !! Awesome !
 

Hello to all I am new here. I own a 2004 Jeep Liberty "Rocky Mountain Edition" The stock light bulbs were 55w real weak and yellow, I think my flashlight was brighter. I found this article from Canadian Driver http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/gk/headlights2.htm
Replaced the Bulbs with PIAA Xtreme White Plus # 9007 that are about twice as bright and are white. I can see now...finally. In Vancouver they can be ordered quickly at Magnem Engines on Boundary Rd.
Installation tips, passenger side, remove air snorkel, two clips it is out, gives room to get in there. Mark the retainer ring with red marker in a position that you will remember when re-installing. To remove bulb, counter clockwise on retainer ring, then pull back the bulb and wiring harness. Disconnect harness, and note that the bulb only goes in one way with the slot on the top.
Drivers side I had to lift up on the fuse block to gain access to the bulb (big hands)
To make installation easy this is the way to do it. Insert bulb with slot in the top upwards. It will lock in there. Then turn the retainer ring clock wise noting your previous red mark, it will lock then. Last re-connect the wiring harness. Ensure that you do not touch the glass on the new bulb. Use rubbing alcohol if you do !

I have driven now on some dark roads and can tell you that once the headlights were set up a bit on the wall, you hardly need your high beams. These PIAA are real white and make things clear and white, which is easier to see and keeps your eyes fresh not tired by the previous stock yellow candles. I don't think that PIAA makes them for the fog lights, but if anyone does have a recommended replacement for the fog lights make a separate post regarding new bulbs for the fog lights. Also for the back up bulbs they also are way too weak.
Post back here once you change your headlight bulbs, would like to hear how you feel about your new bulbs, and if you had to raise up your lights too.

I think they were about $80 tax included.
Use the plastic get them tomorrow........
You will go...wow..what a difference !!!
Visibility is everything when it gets dark and wet out...
Best $80 spent when you can see better and illuminate the road correctly. It's about safety.
Too bad jeep takes shortcuts, and uses so-so parts....even the stock tires suck. Shocks/Struts too.
PIAA should get their light bulbs on Chrysler's standard equipment list !!
They should also make a more fuel efficient motor that has a bit more power/torque for the jeeps. Something updated other than the now old 3.7. Really disappointed that 2009 leaves the 3.7 in the line up..wow...

I'm not a big fan of the "new" body style direction they are taking so regardless of the power plant it would be a hard sell.

More power means less fuel efficiency in the ol internal combustion engine it always will, no matter how long they tweak it. I had a 05 Pontiac Vibe (1.8 VVTi) prior to this and sure I could get almost 40 mpg but, my foot was on the floorboards most of the time, I wouldn't drive in the snow (hwy) if I could help it, and it began to feel like a little black coffin in a sea of huge vehicles ...lol. Don't get me wrong that car is one of the best built (fit and finish, in it's class) and reliable cars I have ever owned but it just doesn't have the girth and capability that I need to confidently get me up north. I loved my Vibe but I love my JEEP more!

Save your pennies for the fully electric, limitless torque Jeeps that could see the light of day once we master the battery technology. Of course someone will also have to invent the simulated V8 engine sound amlificator ..lol. You don't want to hear just a hum as your climbing a rocky riverbed :o .. actually I could kinda dig the silence now that I think of it.

I hear ya on the parts .. but am still generally impressed with the reliability given the capability of Jeeps, always have been. I suppose in a limited way they do offer better part options but a full out premium outfitted Jeep would be a great option. But would they sell enough of them? They skimp and trim most likely only to keep up with the competition from the imports.

I'm on the lights, just gotta find them somewhere...

Was out last night and went a bit off road...real nice with the Piaa's on..tried high beams, actually preferred, lows with fog lights on as well...white and bright!

Not yet T, I was distracted by a possible light bar sighting...lol. Turned out to be a third party model ... too FUGLY! :o). I did manage to get my Rear Light Guards on though. pretty tough ..lol. I am still lookin but I think I am going to tackle the spark plugs next though. The originals are probably still in there at 50k. Thank God for the how-to's on the U.S. libby forum!
