Motor's going away arghhhhhhh

Guys, i bought a brand new Liberty in 2003 and i always took care of the vehicule but since 6 months, i'm hearing tic-tic-tic-tic from the motor (oh no.....) It's worst when it's colder and it's gettting worst and worst over the months. It has 138 000km

I just arrived from the dealer (oil change and stuff) and he came out with a 2700$ submission to change the motor. That's without work time and taxes !!!!!!!!!!!!!

So one of my question is, how many hours does it take to change a motor on a Liberty ?
Second, do you think i should get a used motor from a "scrap shop" ?
Or it's a recurring problem problem with those motors ?

Do you have similar stories ?
A guy from the shop told me that he had to change the motor at 56 000km !!!!
No charge of course but still..

Thanks

what kinda tick is it, is it like a metronome, really slow and consistent with the engines speed? or a loud deep tick... where is it coming from in the engine, top or the bottom...

I just replaced a rocker arm on my buddy's engine, was it ever ticking before hand...

$5 for a new rocker...

take it to someone that has experience building a motor, it could save you hundreds... (and again, sometimes these guys will charge a fortune too)

try running some seafoam thru the vacuum booster hose....very slowly (will smoke out the tailpipe)
run the Sh!t out of it on the hiway...
add1/2 the can to the oil as well, this will decarbonize and desludge the motor....
Marvel Mystery oil is good as well for the oil....
2.7l engine are prone to carbon and sludge if not maintained properly....

Elvis, The dealer must have provided you with information as to what exactly was wrong in the engine. You have the 3.7 motor yes?
Generally speaking the 3.7 is a very reliable motor with some average mileage engines experiencing some premature failures in the valve train department. (valve guides, seals, seats, and rocker)
If the heads just need rebuilding or one side, charges should be no where near $2700.
Why exactly is the dealer stating a whole new engine, what is wrong with it?
