JEEP KJ vs. KK

 Hey

I'v been getting some heat from some KJ Jeep Owners who are saying my new 08' KK is nothing compared to the older style KJ.

Anyone know of any huge differences between the two dif platforms? Other than the look obviously. This is my 1st Jeep & I only have about 9000km so not much experience with it yet!

Cheers!

I never driven the 08 Liberty yet...but personally,I prefer my 06 in regards to body style. I just think the newer ones look 'sguarish' if that kinda makes since

the best thing to do is the put up or shut-up test... take em out to the trails and see who goes further... or see who is more comfortable atleast... now wear and tear on the older liberty is something to take into consideration...

i did this test with my buddy steve's liberty vs my grand cherokee, both 04's with close mileage, and virtually virgin to the trails... and the GC blew the liberty apart, aside from the gas mileage he was getting, and the leather we both agree'd upon the grand cherokee... now this isn't a pissing contest between the two just really which we perfered...

i just liked how narrow the liberty was, it could fit into some of the places the GC couldn't lol

Well I will be going out to test them on the trail but I'm waiting until I put my A/Ts on. Between body styles I do like the new one because of the boxy look. The new KK kinda looks like the early model GC.

agreed, it looks like a blend of all the jeeps, i see influences from the grand cherokee and wrangler in the new liberty... i think its a sweet lookin ride...

got me thinking of heading to the dealership to take one for a spin to see for myself

For sure take it for a spin, I drove a 02 GC which you can feel the torque alot more but I think you'll really like the ride of the liberty. It feels a lil more sporty than the GC, the handling is alot tighter!

Still waiting to hit some mud trails with it though, only drove over some curbs so far :P

Re: JEEP KJ vs. KK

yea, although tighter might not articulate the same on some sketchy trails though... id have to see some aftermarket stuff coming out for these things before i would purchase one (not even like i could purchase one while it was new... i hate expensive car payments lol)

I had taken my uncles 08 wrangler unlimited out for a spin last weekend, i could really get down with that... except for just how long the wheelbase is its close to what im more comfortable with... same thing though, just not as torquey as the Inline six...

and you should feel a modified inline six... when i put it in part time 4 and ofcourse 4 low... that thing really gets up and wants to go! i swear it would go vertically up a wall with ease

I think that's kind of ironic considering all the flack that kj owners have been taking from other jeep owners about how their kj is not a 'real' jeep because it has IFS. I doubt that most KJ owners are giving you flack. It's likely a few bad apples. The KK does have a stronger front differential than the KJ. Also the KK can use any gears a d30 diff can use. While the d30a diff from the KJ can only go up to 4.10. So right away there are some advantages there if you want to run larger tire sizes. Body style is personal preference and does little to help a vehicle off-road. At first i did not like how they changed the kj's body style either because it was such a radical change. Why change a good thing right? Well, that's something that jeep seems to be doing now. No more xj or tj for instance. But the kk does look good especially with a lift and some real tires. Now lets face it no kj or kk is going to be doing extreme off-roading anyways unless they do major modifications including a sfa swap.
