glass/gate error

I have a 2003 liberty. Last night my rear wiper started to work on its own, even in the off posistion. This afternoon it stopped working. The dash indicates the glass/gate is open. I am also getting the handle issue that my gate only unlocks via remote. I have disconnected the locks power, the glass power and the lock power. I am still getting a glass error. No longer getting the error of the gate. My rear wiper is getting voltage to it, but obviouisly will not work with the glass error. And on another note, my interior lights have finally turned off when I start the car again. Weird garbage going on. Any suggestions? Should I replace the door lock mechanism? The wiper motor or guts? Is the glass latch faulty? I dont know what else to do now. :(

It sounds like a short in the harness somewhere. I would start by checking it there is any visible damage to the wiring where it goes from the front to the rear of the vehicle and go from there.

Thanks for the reply. I was told that it was the multi switch that malfunctioned. I bought a new one. Still the same issues. But now I have a few more issue that developed. My interior lights stay on all the time, and now my radio turns on by itself. 30 seconds after turning off my jeep it comes back on. I found that if I use anything to do with my wipers it turns off but then comes right back on. There is a noise that comes from under my hood though. Will investigate and see what that is. After going under the hood, with the keys out and stereo going with the wipers turned on, the wiper fuse is squeeling. Most likely due to the fact that there is too much voltage running thru due to some short somewhere. Looks like a cold saturday for me is in store. lol

ok, new development. I keep blowing right side headlights and taillights. time to gut the interior and check for melted wires.

It's a long shot ... and you may have already checked .. but how is your battery? KJ's seem to develop very weird behavior as described when the batt is dying. Good luck.

Under the rear/drivers side seat the this a wire harness that give KJ some electrical problems. Also check under the PDU(Power Distribution Unit/ Fuse block under the hood)

Re: glass/gate error

That rear harness was exaclty it. Several wires were corroded green. I am off to the wreckers to try and find another one now. Its a 25 wires harness that I think is still used between 2002 to 2007. Hopefully I'll be able to find one that is still good. Thanks for all the tips guys. I almost took it to the dealer which I know would have cost me a ton.

:) I am a dealer tech. And proud to be, so proud of Chrysler products and service that everyone in my family and most of my friends now drive Chrysler/Dodge and Jeep vehicles.
It wouldn't have cost you that much, most dealer tech's know about this electrical problem with KJ. I can't see your particular wiring harness but you should be able to use a splice kit p/n 05018620AA to repair damaged terminals within the C306 body harness connector.
You know the same thing "can be" said about amateurs or cheaper small garages working on Chrysler vehicles. I have seem many clients come in after spending hundreds even thousands of bucks at another garage or themselves to correct a problem and it is still there! Now that they are fed-up and just want it fixed, then they bring it to the dealer. I have personal on many occasions gotten into the vehicle with a client drove the car 2-3Km and just after that short road test, told them the problem.(Suspension issues) Now I'm not saying we are the greatest but IMO no one but no one knows your Jeep better than a Chrysler dealership tech. Oh an FYI a large number of those "God I just want my vehicle fixed" problems I've seen were caused by GUESS "jobber parts" Now please don't get all bent out of shape over that statement. I know what most of you are thinking "what is this guy nuts" 10yrs ago I would've been thinking the same thing. Today I would never put anything other than OEM parts on my Jeep.
And one last thing, as of 2011 Chrysler is making it mandatory that all tech's take level 2 courses(online Chrysler exams) or they are not allowed to work on vehicles with warranty issues. Everything from brakes, transmission, engine and computer module communication issues. These courses are not easy and require 50plus hrs of online homework.
This is all just food for thought before you go and bash the dealer tech.
