2002 Front Suspension bangs

Hi, One month ago, I took my 2002 Liberty to the garage because I felt the suspension had to be replaced. I drive 40km daily on gravel roads and 60km on hwy (100km total). The mechanic did replace the front shock absorbers with Monroe Sensatrac but said the rear suspension was okay. I don't feel a big difference with those new shocks. For example, when driving about 40-60km/h over a road depression or bump over a culvret, the front suspension "bangs". This does not occur with my Silverado or my Corolla. May something else in cause or is it just the way the Jeep behaves?

Thanks.

Liberty's are notorious for upper ball joints have your mechanic look at those.

You say you had the shocks replaced ... but did you change out the springs? They are long past there service if you have the originals. Springs that are too compressed would result in the banging you hear.

Indeed, I believe the springs are the original ones, and the Jeep has 237 000km! She is at the mechanic shop right now and they will be replaced this week. Will let you know.

Thanks.

The stock suspension with coil bind where the coils touch each other instead of spacing? they are stacked/whacked and bagged. There is no point in a 4x4 of going cheap and just using stock replacements, might as well do the lifted coils.I replaced mine with OME 927 front coils and 948 in rears.
Bilstien shocks, boiler's 3/8 teel top spacer, clevis conduits, JBA 4.5 Upper A Arms Teraflex front bumpstops, hockey pucks rear, one extra rubber isolator in rear and Spidertrax 1.25 inch wheel spacers.

Now it rides way better than new, handles awesome, and what can I say more ground clearance.
