ventilation

I have a wrangler 2010 and cannot seem to find the right setting for clear side windows .
All this confusion of what to select how much heat (after its warm) reminds me back in the early 70's vehicles they were hard are to set up for clear windsheild and clear side windows.
I'm almost ready to look at purchasing two small fans pointing at the side windows from the windsheild area to increase the air flow.Remeber way back the fans on the dash.
And air press --all 4 tires dropped from 37psi to 30 and they are nitrogen filled and where i live there is no nitrogen,so i'm going to leave it alone till i get to a nitrogen spot don't want to contaminate the nitorgen with air

Re: ventilation

Greetings,
Air is about 78% nitrogen so "contamination" is somewhat moot. Why your concern about nitrogen?
http://www.betiresmart.ca/inflation/nitrogen.html Keeping your tires properly inflated is much more important IMHO.

Re: ventilation

the jeep came with nitrogen filled tires so i thought i would keep it up ,
but i could top the tires up with air ,form what you're saying its more important

Re: ventilation

Have dealership check you air conditioner and defrost fans. We have 3 x 2010's out back and no one has that issue. Something wrong I'd say. Only other thing I can think of is that you have too much moisture in vehicle - are floor mats saturated? It happens this time of year.

I pull front floor board rubber plugs on all of ours so water drains out year round. In my own I, removed all interior carpet and Linxed the interior tub - only way to go as far as I'm concerned.

Re: ventilation

no moisture no dampness ,i just cannot seem to find the right spot to have all clear windows

Re: ventilation

Greetings,
woodman. If you read the link I gave, there is SOME advantage to nitrogen but as I mentioned, I think maitaining proper tire pressure is the MOST important for even wear and handling. I check my tires at least once every couple of weeks and maintain 70 PSI in them. I got new tires (BFG AT's) a couple of months ago and my tire guy said 70 PSI. My manual says 33 PSI all around but I trust my tire guy.

Re: ventilation

took your advice and raised all 4 tires to the door pressure rating, alarm is gone

Re: ventilation

@Woodman
I have my 2 door vents angled to always clear the windows and the 2 center vents angled up and to the center to keeps the little ones in the back seat warm. The only time I notice fogging is when I first warm up the Jeep and have the heater set to recirculate the air. As soon as I turn off that option the windows start to clear.

@Savassa
70 PSI... Holy Crap!!! I'm not a tire expert, but that seems a little high. Have you done a chalk test on the tires with that pressure.

Re: ventilation

Good morning,
Vryce. Yup, I about freaked when told the inflation pressure. 70 PSI ????? Stiffer ride but seems to handle fine. Thanks for the chaulk test link. Haven't done it yet, may when things dry up a bit. You're in Ottawa. I have bought several sets of tires from Osgoode tire ,as has my son, which is where I got the BFG's. Brian (the owner) said "Yup, 70 PSI."
I have shopped around in the past and Osgoode tire always seemed to have the best price and free rotation every 10K (OK, not a big deal but still). If I recal, $235/tire all in + tax. Best price other places (CTC for example) $225 + balance + stem + tax.

Re: ventilation

Heater vent settings:
Set selector to defrost/floor setting until Jeep warms up.
Then set selector to upper vents/floor, adjust side vents to point at side windows, adjust center vents slightly up and to the middle as Vryce has suggested.
If your side windows are frozen shut, once Jeep is fully warmed, set selector to upper vents only (not defrost) . This will thaw out the windows in only a few minutes.

As for Nitrogen, IMHO it is just a gimic. Yes, it does not expand or contract as much as air but it still does. Nitrogen has its place on the race track or airplane tires, but I see no benefit in using it on street vehicles (TPMS still alarms in cold weather). As for your tire guy, sorry, air pressure is determined by vehicle weight and tire size/type. The ONLY way to determine proper inflation is the chalk test. My 35" Goodyears require 27psi for proper wear and ride.

Re: ventilation

Morning,
JT. Fair enough comment on the tire pressure (70 PSI). I SHOULD do the chaulk test. Thanks, Peter

Re: ventilation

If your windows are fogging up a lot, get the RainX Defogger window treatment. Worked for me.

tire press

dealership says look at the sticker on the driver door ,inflate to that press.
And on ventilation thanks for all the ideas ,seems to working on those settings now

That only applies to factory size tires, as specified on the door as well.

tires

but if you are using what came with the vehicle ,those specs should be ok .Mine were the 17in BSW off road
at 37 psi each

Re: ventilation

Hey ! I have a question and maybe someone can help . I plan on doing the chalk test as soon as we get to good pavement on our drive to Florida this Wednesday . I have 285/70/17 GoodYear Duratracs and was thinking if my chalk test indicates I have too much pressure and I let it out my Low Tire Pressure light will likely come on again as I just added air to make it go off. I have 35psi all around right now on my brand spanking new Nascar Digital Tire Gauge LOL Now I'm wondering what to do if this happens....run the minimum pressure to turn off the light and suck it up ?

Re: ventilation

You must do what is best for the tires, not the TPMS. The dealer can adjust the TPMS slightly and with that size tire you may be OK. They cannot adjust down to 27PSI for 35s. Personal, my wheels don't even have the TPMS sensors installed. IMHO they are a PITA in the changing temps that we have here and Nitrogen doesn't control the expansion and contraction enough i.e. in cold weather one side of the Jeep in the sun the other in the shade, alarm goes off. Out of 3 Jeeps with this system and nitrogen filled tires, they still alarm. I just ignore that little light on the dash.

Re: ventilation

Thanks Jeff. Actually it was the wife who called me and said she had a flat tire....I said "WHAT ???" she said "yup , the flat tire light is on !! I said " did you happen to look out and see that flat tire ??" You get the rest of the story !! LOL
I sort of like all the neat gadgets on the Jeep but like anything its a PITA when they screw up !
