Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
I am not running bigger tires. I got 13.2L/100 including a few hours of wheeling witch really dropped my average. I am still getting use to how to drive it to get the beat milage. The tank that I am on right now should net menin the low 11's once I fill it and calculate it out. I will be getting a programmer in the spring as that is when I am installing my lift and rims/tires. I have just always ran 91 shell. I got using it with my Subaru and I have not tried to put 87 in the jeep yet. I will this tank if it does not make much if any difference. Thanks for the info.

Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
There are definitely many different scenarios and there is some good detailed info out there. Personally i have tracked my mileage and recorded any changes made to the vehicle or differences in driving duties i.e. hauling a trailer etc.
My Jeep specs as of right now 08 Unlimited, 3.8L A/T, 3.73 gears, 35" Duratracs, factory bumpers, no extra weight. My findings to date: Average mileage stock before bigger tires, standard oil - 17.5mpg = 13.4L/100klm Average mileage stock before bigger tires, Syn oil - 19.5mpg = 12.1L/100klm Average mileage 35" tires O/D on - 15.2mpg = 15.5L/100klm Average mileage 35" tires O/D Off - 16.0mpg = 14.7L/100klm Average mileage runnning 91 or 87 same result with O/D Off - 16.0mpg = 14.7L/100klm Average mileage with Superchips 87 tune O/D Off- 16.3mpg = 14.4L/100klm Average mileage with Superchips 91 tune O/D Off- 16.5mpg = 14.3L/100klm Average mileage with Superchips Tow tune on 91 octane O/D Off - 17.3mpg = 13.6L/100klm As you can see by my findings running Premium didn't make a difference on the stock tune. The 2 biggest mileage increases where obtained by 1) switching to Synthetic oil, 2) installing the Superchips programmer.. My average cost to run Reg 87 Octane = $0.1977 per Kilometer and Premium 91 Octane = $0.1948 per Kilometer. As you can see a properly tune motor can run more efficiently on Premium. |
Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
UPDATE ... UPDATE..
So 91 Octane on Tow Tune has netted an average 17mpg. 16mpg if I step on it too much and 18mpg+ if I cruise along at 90 - 100kph... I've seen as high as 20mph on a full tank of 100% highway driving. I average 420 to 500 klm from full to 1/4 tank.. Performance is awesome in this tune and gas price to usage works out about the same as running reg. Anyway after a month of tow Tune I have filled up with regular and switched to 87 Octane tune. OK not fun there is definitely a performance difference here. I noticed it as soon as I pulled onto the street and it doesn't climb hills as well. Doesn't shift as hash though. Dash is telling me I'm getting better mileage but we'll see when I hand calculate on next fill up.. I can just imagine how sluggish it would feel if I went back to all stock configuration cause even the 87 tune was a marked difference of stock... If this is the kind of difference folks are seeing when they testdrive the new Pentastar over the 3.8 its no wonder they are impressed, however after running this tune on my 3.8 I may not be so impressed when I test drive the new 2012 this week.. I will report back of course.. |
Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
UPDATE:
OK so I went back to 87 Octane Tune and run either midgrade or fill up with 91 Octane every 3rd tank.. Best fuel mileage average so far mixed 18mpg.. Performance although not as good as the 91 on tow tune is acceptable and still much better then stock.. At this time I really don't see the point of tracking any fuel economy any further as the weather is getting colder and fuel consumption will go up. I may however compare octane levels and klm per tank to see whether it is more cost effective to run premium in cold weather. ON TO THE 2012 TESTDRIVE --- Just to continue what I stated in my previous entry about the 2012 testdrive.. Turns out the test vehicle was a 2012 Sahara 5spd auto with 3.21 base gears. Compared, the 08 with Superchips is comparable in acceleration when in the right gear, therein lies the big difference. The 5 spd auto seems to always be in the right gear whereas the 4spd, especially with bigger tires struggles to find the right gear. I can see now that a Rubicon with the new auto and 4.10 gears will be great for those that want bigger tires. I would personally like to see a head to head comparison between a programmed 3.8L vs 3.6L with the manual transmission which has not changed for 2012. This would determine if the auto trans any factory programming is truly the failing point of the 3.8L and not the engine itself. |
Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
Yet another UPDATE:
The last few tanks I've been alternating between regular and premium with the 87 octane tune. Performance is good, pulling power is good. Fuel economy about the same, cost per kilometer just a bit cheaper, due to every second fill up is regular. I also put the stock muffler back on and it seems to have a little more power, but definitely smoother.. Evidently this motor needs a little backpressure to run properly.. Tired of UPDATES yet???? |
Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
Jeff, I read your posts with great interest ! Keep them coming ! I just got my leveling kit, wheel spacers and trailer hitch for my Rubi yesterday. Can't wait to install this weekend ! I checked Habour Freight ( sort of like a Princess Auto) out of the States and thinking of a 9000lb Badland winch and the price..350$ !!!

Ogdensburg NY and paid the taxes when I brought it across the border. They do list for $349.00 on jeepaddons.com , but if you call and speak to Chris X1884 he will do the $309 deal. They are actually selling them with synthetic line as well now (Wish I had of waited!) $289.00 for 9K with steel line $309.00 for 10K with steel line $429.00 for 9K with synthetic $449.00 for 10K with synthetic The price may go up a fair bit if they ship direct to Canada as they are pretty heavy! I'm happy with it so far...But have only done a couple of pulls. Here's an interesting test comparing winches: http://www.fourwheeler.com/techartic...out/index.html |

Awesome Thanks for the info ...

Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
Hey XXSS, do you like the rope or would you prefer the 7/19 wrap stainless?
|
Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
UPDATE: Back to Tow Tune on 87 Octane .. Mileage not as good on 87 tune especially if I have to pull the trailer...
|
Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
Lets see if Superchips will come out with a 'chip' upgrade for the PentaStar!!! I'm waiting!!!
|
Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
You and me both.. Hoping to order the 2012 Rubi by the end of the week..
|
Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
UPDATE: For those interested... Lovin' the superchips. Still on 91 Octane and Tow Tune Throttle response has gotten even better, as mentioned before it seems to actually learn your driving style and enhances it.. I am happy enough with my 08 that I cancelled my 2012 order before they could process it....
|
Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
Wow, cancelled a 2012! I can't wait til they crack the 2011 codes. This seems like the answer to my prays without major engine mods.
|
Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
FINAL UPDATE: Well I still have the Tow Tune installed, however because of cold weather the last 4 tanks I have just run reg 87 octane instead of Premium 91 octane.. So yesterday I decided to fill up with premium as I will be towing my trailer around. WOW what a freaking difference. Now I know why I love this tuner and Premium gas. This 3.8 on 35's and still stock 3.73 gears will out run and beat my old 98 Ram off the line and all the way through. And yes I have driven a 2012 with the 3.6 a few times. I am impressed with the new 2012 auto 5spd gearing but I am certainly glad I didn't trade in my 08..

Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
I am a new Jeep owner and I am looking to add some zip to my ride. I have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. I find it sluggish on take off and it does not have the pep to just step out and pass someone on the highway.
Is this superchip a hard install? How does the tuning work? I am not a mechanic but I am a very handy guy. Dwayne |
Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
Not hard to instal. The Superchips will give you better throttle response and by removing the speedo limiter will give you better passing power. I better tunes the engine so you can run higher octane fuel and get the benefit of better power and mileage.
|
Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
Thanks Jeff,
I assume there is no issue that it is a 6 speed manual transmission? |
Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
No issue at all. The better tunes, throttle response adjustment, Speedo limiter and so on work just as well on the standard trans models..
|
Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
So, am I correct in saying that this wont work in my 2011 right now?
|
Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
Unfortunately the programers will not work with 2011-12. They have been working on this for over 2 years now and have not been able to crack Chryslers latest coding.

Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
I bought the superchip flashpaq last week and tuned my JK to the 87 octane to start out with and I adjusted the tire size. Man, what a difference right away. Better throttle response (mine is a six speed manual), better shifting points, smoother shifting and better fuel mileage. I was getting 14.6L/100km and after just one week I am getting 13.3L/100km and I am probably driving a little more aggressive now because of the better pep. Next week I am going to try the 91 octane tune.

Loving the Superchip Flashpaq. |
Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
I have ordered a 2012 and it should be in sometime in May. This means i will no longer be needing my flash paq once i get the new jeep. I have luved the tuner and can say nothing bad about it, like everyone else, better mileage, better shifting, better performance. Think most of the improvements come from the auto trans settings rather then the hp and torque. Anyway, i live in Madoc, a few km north of Belleville and will have a tuner for sale in a few weeks if anyone is interested. Send me a PM, not on here everyday, but check in every weekend.

So out of curiosity, is the AEV ProCal product similar to this? It seems that one works with 2011 models....
From what I can tell, it seems the ProCal does some things, but not as much as this flashpaq eh? |

The Procal is a very basic unit that will allow only to change tire size, gear ratio and a few other small things. It cannot however reprogram the engine controls and parameters and this is why the ProCal will work on the 2011 and 12.. The superchips will do these minor changes as well on the 2011 and 12 but that is all it can do as the engine programming code has not been broken..

Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK
Going on-line to Just Jeeps now!!!! Sounds like this will make my truck even more fun and improve milage!!!!
On a stock 2010 JKU I am averaging 12.5l/100km. That is 75% highway at 110-115km/hr cruise on o/d on. I run regular 87 from Canadian Tire because of the 10 times coupons... I have a long road trip from Hamilton up to Ottawa in a couple weeks... Would be interested to see fuel savings. Garry... If you still have it for sale.... I can slip by and pick it up! |
