Superchips Flashpaq for JK

My results from Superchip Flashpaq reprogram as promised in other thread in main forum. I thought I would post it here for those that don't wonder out of the JK forum ..

My JK specs.
2008 Unlimited Sahara 3.8L V6 Auto 90,000klm
Factory 3.73 gears
35x12.50x16 GY Duratracs (actually measure 34")
3.5" front lift, 2.5" rear lift
relocated exhaust no motor mods other then the Flashpaq

1027klm since Flashpaq install
Install info
- 87 octane tune
- recal for tires/speedo
- removed Rev limiter (factory was set at 5280rpm)
- removed Speed limiter (factory was set at 140kph) ..
- throttle response - set to Superchips setting

Observations:
- Throttle response is much better, not sluggish anymore.
- shifting in auto is firmer and more accurate (like it should have been from the factory)
- does not hunt for gear as much, downshifts sooner.
- more torque in the bottom
- more passing power as the Rev and Speedo limiters were removed.. Yes I had it over 160KPM passing the big rigs with no problem.
- seems to get up to speed quicker

Conclusion:
Should have done this a long time ago. So much more fun to drive. Highly suggest this product. I did this on my 98 RAM with the same great results 7 years ago.
Bonus = better gas mileage.
On a 500klm road trip yesterday I averaged 12.2L/100klm (19.6mi / USgl. or 23.5mi / Imp gallon) with O/D off Cruise Control set to 110klm when on the highway. Thats just shy of 700klm for the 85liter tank in the Unlimited. Currently at 340klm I'm at 1/2 tank.
At 110kph the engine runs in its sweetspot at 2500rpm
Overall observation is that the Flashpag takes time to learn your driving habits and is still tweaking itself in mine at just over 1000klm since reprogram. It seems to get better every time I drive it. Once it has settled in I will update this post again then try the 91 Octane tune.

With this tuner you should see an easy consistent 2mpg increase in mileage. This mileage increase will vary dependent on your driving style of course.
If you are still on stock tires there is no reason you shouldn't get under 10L/110klm hwy. Remember I'm getting 12.2L/100klm on 35s and 3.73 gears O/D off. If I swap out to 5.13 gears and can then use O/D I can prob pull out another mpg or two.

Thanks for sharing your findings. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around the "higher rpm getting better mpg".

I'm going to have to turn off o/d and see it for myself. Right now at 110kph my rpm is 1900, turning off the o/d should put me around the 2500-2600rpm range.

All you can do is run a full tank with O/D off and see for yourself. The engine runs so much smoother at 2500rpm.
Running O/D off does not net better mileage with stock size tires. Not sure it will even make much difference with narrow 33s but definitely makes a difference with wider 33s and 35s.

JTPhoto JK,

Thanks for the very detailed write up, best I've seen on the subject. I'll keep an eye out for your updates as you get some 'run time' on this tune. Considering our two Jeeps are the same (3:73's and auto) your MPG doing pretty good...I'm bone stock and I'm seeing the 9.5L /100 KM as an average...bone stock....considering your mods you are doing good!

Definately going to "chip-up" both my 09 Rubicon and my wifes Wrangler X. Both are two door but hers is auto and mine a 6 speed. Hers has 285/70/17 GY and mine is stock with 255/75/17 BFG. I don't even try to drive hers anymore with the overdrive on as it won't keep speed and its constantly backshifting. She gets not quite 400k per tank and I'm getting near 100k more per tank. Interesting....

As per Superchips forum
87 octain tune +16hp +13torque
91 octain tune +21hp. +30torque

Don't forget to go into the advanced settings and set throttle response, rev limiter, and speedo limiter.

Re: Superchips Flashpaq for JK

UPDATE: I've run a few tanks through on 87 Octane tune and so far it is a welcome change. I am currently averaging between 12 - 12.8L /100klm depending on how much city driving I do. Throttle response off the stop is pretty surprising.
Today I changed it up and filled up with 91 Octane and left the tune at 87. Wow, now there is a noticeable difference and I haven't even programmed it for 91 Octane yet. The torque curve for 91 Octane tune is suppose to climb quicker then the 87 tune and much quicker then stock. I will have to try it for a tank or two to see if the cost factor equates to a mileage benefit.
More later...

I am really interested in the Flashpaq.

Is there a way to put it back to factory setting? Also, is it user friendly?

Where do you get one of these?

Very simple to put back to stock at anytime. They can be purchased through any Jeep accessory retailer. Northridge or JustJeeps in Canada or Quadratec and 4wd parts in the US.
