Soft Top Rear Window

2 Attachment(s)
Hi all,

I've had a problem with my rear window on my soft top ever since I got my 07 Jeep Wrangler X (two door). The zipper always serperates. Teeth are all intact but I am wondering if it is missing something.

Attached is a diagram of a zipper. When you first start a zipper there is a pin and a box, pin fits in box.

I have not seen other rear windows other than mine (and like I say I think something is missing). I think there is supposed to be a box but there isn't on mine and that's why it's splitting.

If there is supposed to be a box for the pin to go into, where should it be? On the side of the zipper that is attached to the soft top/jeep or on the side of the zipper that is attached to the rear window.

If it's on the window side, I could just purchase a new rear window and zip it onto my current soft top.

Thanks in advance for your help.

:)

On my rear window I have two zippers. This allows the window to be opened on both sides and the rear window to be rolled up (open). Both zippers are attached to the window. Hope that helps but it sounds like you might be missing a zipper? Find another Jeep and compare. Jeep people are always willing to help out.

You are correct in that you need the 'Pin' and 'Box' parts to force the teeth to mesh and stay together. Without those pieces the zipper will not stay together! One piece, the pin, is on the window and one piece, the box, is on the soft top. When they fit together, they line up and mesh the teeth.
You need them both.

Not true when it comes to jeep rear windows. You don't have a box on the end that you start because when you want to roll up the windown you wouldnt be able to.

I had the same problem with the rear window on my TJ. I did 2 things to resolve this. First i squeezed the zipper slider so that the opening where the tape slides through was slightly smaller on both sides. Second I lubricated the zipper. There are a bunch of aftermarket things that you can buy. But you can rub a candle along the zipper and the wax will lubricate it or even easier is a tube of chap stick or lip balm. You can choose your favorite flavor. I haven't had a problem since.

Lube the zipper with pencil lead.

As already mentioned you need to squeeze the smaller end of the zipper foot so it forces the teeth to mesh together. Lubing the zipper will also aid in proper meshing..

There is no "box" on the driver side just 2 double size pins that go through both zippers...
