snorkels ???

OK so I am thinking about putting a snorkel on the Rubi , does anyone have one and what brand ? Good . bad ? Let me know please . I am thinking about buying An AEV unit . They even have a pre cleaner you can add for the heavy or fine dust . And only some triming on the hood . Still undecided ,, Thanks .

with a snorkel how deep in water can you go and does that harm the engine

Re: snorkels ???

Most snorkels are about 24-28" above the stock air cleaner height, all they are really designed to do is get rid of the possability of pushing water into the airbox when you first enter water like when you come off a bank and the front end is lower than the rear.
For how deep I've found that in my WJ if I don't go deeper than 1/2 way up the front bumper that gives me about 2" to spare below my intake. (32's and 4 1/2" lift)

Just as an opinion-

Snorkels have several functions
1)-protect engine from HYDROLOCKING
2)-raise intake above dust/debris on long dirt road travel
3)-raise social appreciation (whether it works or not)

If the use is going to be dedicated to deep water traverse, (#1) it ain't cheap and if you have it done , the maintenance required can be expensive or time consuming

The stock JK air intake is one of the really stupid engineering moves jeep made in 2007, there have been hydrolocks on JKs just speeding through a puddle, on the street

It has to have the gasket system constantly maintained to prevent water entry-"ever" and then has to have an emergency drain system BEFORE the main air filter

Remember what I said about constant maintenance, unless you opt for function #3

Good luck

Re: snorkels ???

Well it would be for those dusty trails , and for those Not intended deep water crossings . I have been lucky so far so I don't want to push my luck. I have been on some trail rides where there has been some water ingested .Not me but some others I was with did not fare so well , and there was some costly repairs . So I want to try and avoid this , so the snorkel is going to help I hope . I will post pics when it is on . Thanks for the input all.
