REVERSING tires on 2012 (no white letters)??

Anybody ever asked their dealer to REVERSE the tires on their new JKs...to put the white lettering on the back?

I really, really don't like white-letter tires...:frown:

The tires are 'non-directional' and as far as I can determine, they should work fine reversed on the rims...

My dealer is NOT really keen on doing this...I wonder why?...I would pay to have them re-mounted on the stock 18" wheels...at delivery of my Sahara, which is due anytime...

Any comments on this from anybody?

You owe me a keyboard,
this one has coffee on it that came out of my nose!

Tires have and inside and an outside, you cannot mount them inside out.
You may order some that have black letters though,
why raise the bridge, when you can lower the river!

Here is a cheap solution to your problem...

Morning all,
Yup, tires DO have an inside and outside. The tread is usually on the outside. I think what saharaguy is asking is to, for example, take the right front tire (with the white lettering showing) and re-mount it on the left front rim (tire revolving in the SAME direction) so the white lettering is now facing the chassis rather than facing away from the chassis. Similarly with the remaining rubber.
I see NO reason why this cannot be done....BT, you can't be serious about the paint????

I bought mine with Mickey Thompsons....and when they were mounting them, they asked if I wanted the white letters facing outside or not. I would imagine you can do it with the stockers.

Here is a front right tire,
if it was put on the front left, white letters in,
would it be the same?

I think not...

I could be wrong....

I think it depends on the tire. The tire shown in pic is asymmetrical; meaning it has inside and outside. What type of tire comes stock on a 2012? I have done this many times; and it is dependant on tire tread design. At least that is my understanding?????

Greetings,
I stand corrected and apologise. Was thinking old technology and NOT asymmetrical. Never knew that technology existed....don't ever get old....

Re: REVERSING tires on 2012 (no white letters)??

I don't think that Bridgestone Dueler AT RH-S tires (standard on Sahara, Sport Wranglers) are asymmetrical or directional...look at the tread...on the factory info page:

http://www.bridgestonetire.com/produ...ueler_A/T_RH-S

The tread looks the same on both sides...and there is no bias toward direction, as far as I can see...plus absolutely no reference to them being asymmetrical or directional...

http://www.jeep.com/en/2012/wrangler.../wheels_tires/

Therefore, I see no reason why they could not be switched back to front to eliminate the god-awful white letters...

Plus, why 'free advertise' Bridgestone?

I don't really like the idea of dismounting and remounting the tires, even from new...in reference to possible re-seating problems against the rims...however...uggggh...the LOOK of the white letters makes me ill!!

I know you can carefully 'grind' off the white paint, either with a small grinder - or by repeatedly driving against rocks on the trail...but, I'd rather avoid doing either...

Plus, someday, when I grow up...I want DUBS on my JK...like these::laugh:

By the way, for all those 'curb profilers/dealers' out there, I THINK those wheels are 24" and they're...these:

http://www.bentchiwheel.net/wheels.a...D=14&ClassID=1

Tires are apparently 'Nexen'...

(I'm still laughing)

The Duelers that the Sahara comes equipped with are not directional. There is no reason they can't do it for you. In fact a decent dealer would definately throw in a simple remount and balance... you're spending almost $40000 and giving years of warranty work for Pete's sake!!

I got my dealership to put 33" Goodyear (amazing tire btw!!) on my JK and they gave me the tires for a great deal and installed and balanced them for free.

I am going to refrain from commenting on some of the info posted earlier... Except for the spray paint one... Seriously???

A buddy of mine did it. Never had an issue. Course he has a real issue with rattlecans though.

Re: REVERSING tires on 2012 - SPRAY PAINTING!!!

OK...I actually remember spray-painting tires on a car I owned a LONG, LONG time ago...

It was a 1974 Ford Maverick - 2-door (NOT 4X4!!)...with a 302 V8...rusted to heck...I had the inner door panels attached to the outer ones with bits of threaded rod, nuts and washers and Bondo covering the mess on the outside...!!

It was pretty quick, but didn't handle at ALL...and the tires?...Well, let's just say I had several brands of tire on it - at one time!!! So, to make them look new...and partially obliterate the lettering...I did indeed spray the tires...with flat-black Tremclad (as I think it was)...didn't seem to do the rubber any harm...

In fact, the car was originally a ghastly ORANGE colour with a green interior (really!)...and so, as the rust ------, I finally gave up on touching up the orange...and one day, I bought about 10 MORE cans of Tremclad flat black...and painted the whole damn car.

Somewhere I have a picture of it...absolutely HIDEOUS. But, it could keep up with a basic Camaro RS or a Mustang 302...(at least in a straight line!)

That was when I was MUCH, MUCH younger.

At least...30 years ago!!!

Now, I've graduated to Jeep.

I wouldn't call white letter tires free advertising. Can't see anyone going out of there way to search that tire out.
But realistically though, for what you're spending on the new rig, it wouldn't hurt your dealer to swap them around for you. Personally I would rather the dealer just put a better tire on for me to start with. The factory tires are not good in the snow..

Are they that bad in the snow?

I won't run them in the winter again.

I've Run ProComp Xtreme M/Ts (60,000 klm), GY Duratracs (1 winter), and at the moment we have 2 Jeeps and one pickup on PitBull Rocker Radials. Not sure how the Rockers will be on icey roads but they are awesome in snow. For the average guy I suggests the Duratracs.

I ran them last year on my 11 JKU and felt they worked fine. I took the 35" KM2's off and am running them again this winter.

They are not Duratrac's I'll agree...But not that bad...Of course opinions are like a certain exit point we all have.

Back to the OP's original question, there is no reason they can't be remounted with white letters in. If the dealer won't do it for you I'm sure any tire shop will do it for under
$75.00 (5 tires remounted and balanced).

Re: REVERSING tires on 2012 (no white letters)??

I ran the stock Bridgestones for 1/2 a winter, my daughter ran them all last winter on here Jeep and they are OK for slick roads but once you start getting snow they aren't much good. Had to pull mine out the snow the first week I had it. had to pull my daughter out last year. If you live in town you'll be alright with them. We live in the country and many times break trail on the way in to town..
