Oil disappearing?
 

I have a 2008 2 door Sahara. Noticed back in September that the oil was down and continued to add and check and it's still keeps going down. Local dealer couldn't figure out what was wrong but they gave me a sheet to track how much oil they add every time I bring it in and then they send it off to a " service rep"? The sheet was filled last week and sent off, I'm just wondering if anyone has gone through this process before and if so, what came of it?

If there isn't any oil on the undercarriage or engine compartment it sounds like its leaking past the valve seals which shouldn't be normal for a 4 year old engine unless your driving it like a Ferrari.
Diesel engines have a "burn down" but you shouldn't have that with a gas engine.

I have a 2007 and I've heard of a new word..... oil consumption. It is happening to mine too. 1 litre every 2000kms. I've heard worse than mine. I just added some oil additive and will see what that does.

Using 5W30 will also help, if not cure the problem.. However, if you still have warranty have the dealer track and fix...

After couple months of oil consumption check the dealer just changed my engine on my still under warranty 07 X because of bad oil consumption, 1L/1000km.
I'm very relieved now. They gave me no hassle at all.....were super cooperative.
So far so good. There are lots of threads on 3.8 burning oil.

Not unheard of for the 3.8. Try 10w30 in the summer, 5w30 for winter.
The 5w20 was designed to increase mileage for emissions and MPG specs but sucks in my opinion. Lots of guys run the 10w30 and see a difference right away.
DO NOT add any additives unless you want to void your warranty.
If you blow your engine and Chrysler does an analysis your screwed 6 ways from sunday!

well know issue google "jk oil" , it is an issue with that year and 2007. tons of talk about it, not sure if a remedy has ever come about.

I have an 08 Rubi, 6 speed with 60k on it. It is using 1 litre per 1000 kms right now. My dealer has me on an "oil watch" program. Basically after 3 times adding oil they talk to Dodge and get approval to redo the valve stem seals and rings.

Talking to the technician, he said there was a big batch of 3.8's that had really bad rings, etc. This is not an uncommon problem - just need a rebuild and supposedly it's solved.

Ongoing problem with the 3.8. Lots of threads, some dealers swap out the engines, some don't. I'm on an oil watch, but it only seems to be about one quart per 5000 km, so I'm not sweating it too much coz the engine runs very smooth. Some threads say that the problem is with engines built in Toledo. Lots of threads to read.

Oil is disappearing in my 08 X, so off to the dealer she went. Dealer changed oil and pcv valve, and I was told to return in 800 to 1000 kms for a check up. Hopefully it was just the PCV valve.
