Hi guys, I've just signed up to this site and new here. I have a question. I just bought a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sport about 4 months ago. Been driving great these past 4 months, however today after a whole day of just sitting out on my driveway I go to start my jeep and it starts then stalls after 3 or 4 seconds. This happened with 2 more attempts then, on my 3rd attempt there's no response (ignition comes on but engine doesn't turn over). Finally I decide to hold the key in the run position and the engine cranks over and starts again. I let the jeep run for a few minutes thinking some water must have gotten somewhere because we had a rainstorm during the day and the night before, although I've had no issues with it when there was wet and rainy weather before. Anyway so I drive to and park at my destination. When I return to start my jeep it does the same thing. Stalls after a few attempts then no response from the engine. I hold the key then it starts.

This is frustrating because it's a bran new jeep hasn't even got 5k on it yet. I'm wondering if it's the ignition switch, fuel pump, or starter. Although the starter issue doesn't explain why the engine stalls after it starts. Anyway if anyone has an idea why this is happening. Would appreciate it. I do have warranty on it of course and I'll be calling the dealership on the next business day but I am curious to know why this is happening to a new vehicle.

Ok I've figured out what the problem is. The car came with a factory key and 1 spare key. The other day I found under my driver's seat what I thought to be another spare key. I put that with the other original spare key. It looks like that spare I found didn't have a "chip" in it so the usual symptom for that would be the car would start run for a few seconds then stall, multiple attempts will just not let the car turn over. I was thinking about this awhile and figured that since I found that key and I've used the spare set the problem started. So thanks guys, and if you should have the same problems check to see the key that you're using has a factory chip in it. Looks like what I found under my seat was a stray key. :)

That key probably has a chip but not programmed properly or the alarm would have gone off...Have the dealer reprogram the key for you and you will have 3.
