New to the Jeep world, warranty question

I just got a new 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Still learning about it. I picked up a Mopar air/bug deflector this evening at my dealer. They advised it was a drill free installation. When I got home, found out I need to drill 4 holes under the hood.

Before I bring it back, would anyone know if I would void any warranty (e.g. rust) by installing this myself? Would rather not have the dealership involved right now due to some problems but I figured this gadget would keep at least some stuff off the front of the hood and possible the windshield of the new car. If I need to get them to install it to keep the warranty then that's what I'll do.

Any input would be appreciated

Bob

Just call the dealership and ask them is it will affect the warranty if you install it.

you would have been better off getting the bra, it covers the front grill and the front part of the hood. I think it was around $120 when I got mine.

I've made a mistake analyzing a problem before, but I think a proper bug deflector is a definite plus for a jeep. Whether the drilling would void the warranty I think is, as mentioned just a phone call away. I have a bug deflector on my F150 and as a matter of fact I've never had a concern with a dirty windshield on that truck - ever. But the jeep is another matter entirely, probably due to the aerodynamics and the steep windshield angle. A bug deflector, of proper design, to throw the bugs above the windshield would be a definite plus in my opinion. I'm just amazed how quickly the splatters accumulate on a short trip. I saw a deflector at either one of two on-line sites, but it looks more like a decoration factor than an actual deflector, so I'm hesitant to buy it.

Fair enough, I'll contact the dealer to see what they say.

I've looked it over and dry fit it on, it would definitely deflect water, bugs and stuff higher. Whether high enough is another question. The grill in front isn't metal so I wasn't too concerned there. I got a tube of touch up in case that gets hit.

Many thanks for the responses. I'll post what the dealer tells me next week and will let you know how this works. Had the Jeep 2 weeks and I think I've killed almost every bug in our town.

Thanks again

Bob

The Mopar deflector helps, but doesn't stop the rock and bug problem. It does protect the front of the hood and stops the rain and road grime from running up the hood.
No warranty issues putting it on yourself. Just put a silicon sealer on the screws before you screw them in. That will seal them from rust.
