Widow Etching of New Jeeps

Widow Etching of New Jeeps
Is this window etching of the VIN done in other areas of Canada? After all the sales negotiations are done, the "financial guy" dropped this on me as more or less a compulsary part of the deal, since "the windows were already etched". It also included an insurance policy that credits you with $5000.00 toward the purchase of another vehicle at that dealer, if yours is stolen and deemed a total loss. It appears the cost of this is $295.00. I can buy a better policy from our agent for $125.00 and etching kits sell for $20.00 on line. What burned my butt is the way that this is not offered as an option at the time of the sale. It catches the purchaser un-aware, after all the negotiations are done, when they are not ready, mentally, to open the dealing again, and the dealers know this. Psychological warfare here!
Our insurance company does not offer any discount for an etched vehicle so that is a pretty good indication of its value. Also Google "car sales scams" for more info. Anyone else run into this? PS ... lets just say the dealer and I reached an agreement on this.

lol...
So my dealer did the same.
They tell you it's there. They tell you you have to take it because it comes like that. I told them I wasn't going to pay for it because I didn't want it. Their options were to find me one without it or I walk.
Give that a go.

I agree. Tell them you want what you want.

I walked out when they sent the "financial" guy in. They called me later in the day and gave me what I wanted, with a flat all-in price. I had a car, wasn't in a rush to buy and made real clear I was happy to give them a fair price that would make us both happy. I have zero tolerance for BS and they could have an easy sale or a walk-out-and-don't-ever-come-back if they hassled me. Let's face it, there are LOTS of Jeeps out there, and we have at least 5 Jeep dealers in town, so why the heck spend time nickel-and-diming with one? Know what you're willing to pay and tell them exactly what to do for that price. If they want to add stuff that "has to be there" (like PDI and license fees), they can pay for it.

Dealer suggested that all the VIN was etched on all the glass an numerous parts to deter theft- sure, those 17digits are really going to deter a crack user from... well I suggested I did not want this 'feature'... the psychological warfare continued... "your insurance will thank you for it" to which I said 'no thanks' Im in the business-there is no discount- in Ontario anyway.... So I guess you dont want the life insurance either...yeh sure, I went to school and do continuing education annually so you can abuse me after I have agreed to buy a vehicle.... This BS is not only Chrysler... Purchased a Volvo and a Mercedes recently, they do the same thing! They all goto the same school of Psych101... Sorry to rant on my first post BUT if more people walked or threatend to walk, there would be considerable change in this industry.
