my 2012 JK at midnight in the snow

Hi All...

Here's a couple of pics of my new JK Sahara...you can see a couple of 'custom touches' if you look carefully...

I just set my camera on a tripod for a very long exposure...

Very impressed with the 4x4 capability the last few days of icy and snowy roads...in fact, I 'accidentally' humiliated a new BMW 5 series at a light...wasn't very hard...even with his power, weight and sophisticated traction control, I had no problem easily getting by...

I guess that new PentaStar and the 5-speed auto and the standard Jeep traction control MIGHT have had something to do with it...!!

Nice pics! I love shooting night pics like this, the patience it takes to setup the tripod is worth it. The lighting looks cool. Nice Jeep!

my solution to the terrible JK front licence plate mount

Hi all...(again)...

After I ordered my 2012 JK, I agonized about where the heck to put the front licence plate...I asked the dealer NOT to drill the holes in the silver area between the 'driving lights'...I was GOING to try to make some sort of 'folding, hinged bracket to mount immediately beneath the bumper...

But, after getting the Jeep...I realized that this was NOT going to work...

I had an idea to try to blend in the licence cover with the silver of the plastic bumper cover...so, I bought a clear licence plate protector (the more expensive polycarbonate type - not the cheapo Walmart type!)...Then, a can of silver 'bumper paint'...

I took a swipe at each side of the plate cover, down each side - on the inside...spraying the edge with the silver gradually transforming in the clear center section...It was just by good luck that I didn't spoil the cover and have to try again...!!!

Then, I sprayed clear plastic coating on my 18 year old plate...and mounted it all with stainless steel screws...

http://www.box.com/s/3hn83x1z7z4o4ovtk62v

It doesn't look too bad...I think it's legal...since the plate cover is not tinted...and the numbers are easily readable...It kind of 'disappears' into the silver mid section of the bumper...well, let's say it's better than just plastering a plate onto it!!

I did a similar 'trick' with the rear mount...but instead of silver, I used black, spraying along the inside edges of the clear plate cover...to make the edges blend into the black of the mounting assembly...Also, not too bad...I could have sprayed more evenly...I might try it again more carefully sometime...but, it's sure better than just a 'raw plate' on the back...

The only glitch is that there are NO screw holes on the two 'inner' mounting areas for the plate...only little plastic 'tips' that are, I guess, designed to mount through the plate - holes...and two small 'clips' on the right, that the licence is supposed to fit into...

Currently, I have only left upper and lower screws holding the cover assembly on...I think if I drill out the right hand ones, I'd penetrate the metal behind the plate mount assembly, since it's only around 3/4" in...

Cheers...

I must be seeing things. I thought it was a 7 digit plate.
