Question Mud/Salt Access to Tail Lights

Hi all,

New 2009 Wrangler Unlimited, and I purchased the receiver hitch and wiring kit to install so I could tow a utility trailer.

When installing the wiring kit, I opened up the rear tail light as per the instructions, and was a little surprised to find the tail light area is open underneath to the elements except for a piece of foam sitting in there loose.

Has anyone had any issue with mud/salt/snow etc getting in there? I would think this is a serious corrosion problem waiting to happen, no?

Any thoughts, comments, etc.

Well, exactly! I just about had a conniption when I had noticed this too. And what about the fuse box cover being upside down and backwards? Very poor engineering imo! Oh, thanks for the heads up and fix. I was wondering what I should do about it. That low expansion foam has helped in the past on my Suzi, handy stuff.

Have a close look and see the places where the foam will escape and having a dustless surface, stop these with some of that metal foil duct tape. Notice the rocker panels just behind the front wheels. Front mud flaps will sure help keep stuff out of there too and off the running boards as well.
