Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
What are those worth?
|
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
Well they are a little on the expensive side, but as with anything you get what you pay for. They are bright with great cut off and have very low amp draw. They are submersible, dust proof and cool looking. The Lens is also replaceable separately, for like 20 bucks or something. I have talked to truckers who have few years on them and love them.
You can contact JW Speaker directly on the web site or call the guy I got them from Bear at BearTrax 4x4 Outfitters at (780)651-1621. He can set you up or tell you where to get them where you live. I am gonna need some advice when they come in on how to get around the CANBUS on the JK. On the TJ they are an easy install he has TJ's running them allready. They will be here next week and I will post up all the info I can get so you guys can judge the quality for yourselves. |
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
Looking foreward to seeing the final product. Good luck.
|
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
well I got a wiring diagram from a guy on another forum to overcome the CANBUS. I also found a video of the lights in a harley.

Yippie my lights came in. Here is the JW Speaker model 8700 right outta the box.
Attachment 4143 Attachment 4144 Attachment 4145 Sorry about the crappy pics, the digital camera at the shop I work at suks (it gets used by the techs a lot for warranty stuff). The install come next and I will post all the pics for the full install and a bunch of comparisons to the stock lights. |
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
Hey guys if you want a set or pricing on these cotact John Walker at walkerj@jwspeaker.com. He is the guy I talked to. The prices I see on the net are for either heavy truck or Harleys and working in the Industry i can tell you that people that own either get raped, on almost everything they buy for those units. Talk to John and he will set you up with a place to get these.

Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
I love to see how much more light these but out compared to the ipf. Arnt these lights over 700? Seems kinda high for a headlight.

Well here is the install of the lights. I want to thank my friend Barry "Bear" Cherneske of Beartrax 4x4 Outfitters you did the install.
Here is the light Attachment 4130 Bear taking the grill out and light out. Attachment 4131 Comparing the two lights Attachment 4132 Attachment 4133 The Back of the bucket needs to be ground down. It's hard to see but were Bear marked it with a white marker needs to be removed. Attachment 4134 Attachment 4135 Here is a side by side comparison of the lights. The Led is obvious. Attachment 4136 The regular light. Attachment 4137 The LED Attachment 4138 Both LEDS low beam. Attachment 4139 the LEDs high Beam http://i340.photobucket.com/albums/o...l/IMG_4154.jpg The regular lights outside. http://i340.photobucket.com/albums/o...l/IMG_3828.jpg The LEDs outside http://i340.photobucket.com/albums/o...l/IMG_4165.jpg I didn't have time to get picks of them in the day light, I will get some tomorrow for you guys. |
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
Also we didn't have any CANBUS issues. We just cut the H13 connerctor off and put on an H4 connector, and presto everything worked. The DRLs, the flash to pass, and no lights on in the dash. I am very happy with the install. I am trying to get a buddy that wants a set to come with me outta town so I can do a side by side shot in the dark. I live in the city and Edmonton seems to have more street lights than any place else I have ever lived. So I wll post up that pic when I can get both of us outta town.

Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
Looks really good. I may go that route as well.

Hey DCjeep, talk to Bear at Beartrax 4x4 Outfitters I am pretty sure he can get you a deal. There are 2 sets now in TJs in Edmonton look them up and ask what they think http://www.na4wda.org/index.php/topic,3534.0.html. They work well.

Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
I have received some feed back on the pricing(some positive and some REALLY negative) and as such I approached them in the hopes of getting better costs for the lights.
I am really excited about this line, primarily because of the quality of both the lights and their output of lumen's. It has been a long time coming but someone has finally put out a robust, high end headlight that satisfies the needs on the offroad world. Had a great chat with the supplier of the lights..... Just to be clear, JW Speaker sets the pricing and as such after a good talk the initial 600 per unit is being lowered to 520-530 per unit. Glad to say that there was some success on that front, they were very helpfull and a pleasure to deal with. Bear |
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
Well they look great! We all have the light problem on the jks. A few questions. Are they street legal ?
I seen price on line they are pricey but I plan on contacting the people from the other posts. Was the install hard after u got that harness to get passed the Canbus ? And I see u are in Edmonton, can I ask where u think is the best place to get them for price ?? Oh and again they look great lol |
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
Yes they are street legal, they have a DOT number stamped into the housing that is legal in Canada the States, and even a ECE number for the rest of the world.
I wound up just changing the connector from a h13 to a h4, and hooking them up, no extra wiring needed and everything works; DRL's , flash to pass and no lights on in the dash. As for the price of everything in the world you get what you pay for. I can say that these are VERY high quality. For the money, you get DOT legal lights that are dust-proof, submersible and have replaceable lenses with a 4 year warranty. If you live in Edmonton and want to see them PM me and I can meet you somewhere to show you how they work. If you have any more questions just ask. Oh yeah I didn't get a chance to take pics of the lights outside the city yet, I had to entertain the wifey this weekend and I never left the city, hoping to do it Monday night. |
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
right on thanks, i think ill start putting some money away, they definitely seem worth it.

Well I got north of city far enough to get some shots of the lights at nite.
Attachment 4128 And the high Beams. I had to take the shot from just outside the Jeep camera decided not to focus threw the windshield again. Attachment 4129 After talking with John at JW Speaker about how they should be aimed I found out I have to aim them a little bit higher, about three inches higher at 15 feet from the wall. |

Bear and I never did post pics of the lights installed so here are a couple.
Attachment 4109 Attachment 4110 Attachment 4111 I love the way they work and I like the way the look. |
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
looks sick!!
|
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
Thanks, I love the look. They give the Jeep a Transformers almost alive look.
|
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
How did you turn off the DRL feature? I have a set of Cibie 's I am putting in, but I must deactivate the current DRL and move it to the signal lights
|
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
On the LED Headlights I didn't have too. If you want to turn the DRL's from the headlights to the Turn signals you can use an AEV Procal. It can do a lot of very neat things. Check it out, as far as I know it is the only way to move the DRLS. The Dodge Dealers can do it but they won't.
|
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
Thanks. I have heard you can use the Procal. I had already sent them an email to be sure it will do it on the Canadian units. Anybody else have experience with the AEV Procal?
|
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
did you turn of the drl feature? If so, how did you do it?
|
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
sorry, just found my earlier post that, for some reason, did not show up earlier.

Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
Hope this thread isn;t too old to get a reply.
So let me go over what I got from all this... We only need to change the plug from a H3 to a H4. Then cut away some of the bucket where they mount onto the Jeep. Can anyone tell me: 1. Where to get the new H4 plug? 2. Where to get replacement LED's if one of these burn out? Would it cost a lot? 3. Anyone else put these in? and how are they working? Pator 1971how are they holding up after all this time? I think they would be fantastic to get! |
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
Are these LEGAL, though? I don't think any LED retrofits are DOT approved yet (at least in Canada)...
|
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
Well I wrote to the company IN CANADA that is selling these asking the same question I posted and here is the reply:
"Other than grinding out some of the headlamp bucket... nope. It's a pretty straight forward plug 'n play. I'm the one who took the photos online of the install. The lights are amazing. Jeep should have built them with the lamps." Yes they are legal in Canada. |

If they have a flaw it will come out in the first year or 2 and they have a 4 year warranty. 3. The lights work awesome, I have almost a year with them and I wouldn't change them out. I have tried a couple of different LEDS ( Grote trucklights and a Chinese Knock off of the Speakers) The Chinese ones were close but not as good as the Speakers. The pattern is tight bright and easier on my eyes. I have submerged them for extended periods and run them in extreme cold (-51C) no complaints. Best light for me period. |

Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
I am leaning towards the new JW Speakler #8700 Evolution units.
Does anyone know if they work as daytime running lights as required by Canadian laws? |
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
The new Evolutions #8700 JW Speakers are a simple swap for the factory units, except for plugging in the additianol wiring extension.
There is a video somewhere that showed just how easy it is to do. I'm just waiting on the daytime running lights question to be answered. |
Re: Led Headlights for my Jk
Well, I ordered two sets, one black & one chrome, for my jeeps. Should have them Monday

The set in the 2 door are fantastic!. Bright white light, with a low wide light ------ and a good high beam. These have the chrome face andlook great on the black Jeep. The black fronted ones (in a white Jeep) are flickering. Spoke to Speaker and they blamed teh Jeep's wiring and say that they didn't test the lights in Jeeps (even thought the new lights are now sized to fit the Jeep's housing, have polycarbonate covers instead of glass and are shake-proof, and sold though Jeep after marker companies (total cop-out). She did say that she would look into the problem though and get back to me. The distributor told me that there had been some reports of this flickering and that a conductive grease in the wiring connectors would fix it. This was news to Speaker. Soooo, if the flickering problem can be solved, I will be very happy with my purchases. If not, not so much. Time will tell. |
