Hi gang,

I'm hoping to buy some Goodyear Duratrac's this weekend for my Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited 2012.
The jeep is completely stock at this point.

I really love the look of the 'pizza cutter' style and am looking to buy the 235 80 R17 10 ply duratracs. I live in the west where there is lots of snow, so I think this will be my best option.
I have a few questions for my fellow Jeepers

-Does anyone out there run this tire on a stock Jeep? What is your feedback?
-I don't believe I need any modifications to the fenders, is this true?
-Anyone put such a narrow tire on the stock 17" wheels before? How is the fit? Need adjustments in tire pressure?

I'm just looking for some general feedback before I drop 1500$ on these tires. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Using my tire size calculator and your tire specs versus your stock tires 255/75-17's, here's the results:
Sidewall goes down from 7.5" to 7.4"
Section width (How wide the tire is sidewall to sidewall) down again from 10" to 9.25"
Outside diameter (how tall) down again from 32" to 31.8"
Revs per mile up from 629 to 634
At 65mph your speedo will read 64.5mph
Now to answer your questions:
I don't and have never heard of anyone running this size, truth be know never knew they made this size.
Your going to a smaller tire so fitting them under the fenders is not going to be any problem.
This truly isn't a REALLY narrow tire (if you've given the right specs) with the section width only 3/4's of an inch narrower so fitment on 17" rims is not an issue (stock rims are 7.5" wide).
10 ply tires are over kill on a jeep (8 ply would be more suitable) and are built for carrying heavy loads. I've run them (thanks to Skippy's screwup at Cdn Tire) and you can live them, you'll just have to experiment with the tire pressure to find what's comfortable because of the stiff sidewalls they won't flex as easily as say 8 ply, making the ride a little rougher.
IMO, I think there are better options. I'm not exactly sure what the "pizza cutter" look is but going 3/4 of an inch narrower is not likely to be a difference you'll even see, especially if your going DuraTracs, as the aggressive shoulder tread will make them look even wider.
If snow is your greatest fear, Goodyear DuraTracs are the way to go, these tire have a nice aggressive look and are "snowflake" winter rated. Think of the MT's that come stock on the Rubi's, but with provisions to work in winter (sipping). If you can get people to respond on this forum, they'll verify want I'm saying.

This is the 2nd time I have heard about the Goodyear Duratrac tires and someone saying their 10 ply. What sizes are in 10 ply or did I get ripped off royally as my new snowflaked ones don't say no 10 ply or even 8 ply.

You won't find ply #'s molded on the side of the tire, what you read is the load rating letter.
An LT (meaning light truck) tire with the load rating letter C means its a 6 ply, D is an 8 ply and an
E will be 10 ply. Another give away is to check the Max air pressure rating. C/6ply are max rated @
50psi, D/8ply @ 65psi and E/10ply @ 80psi. Of course there's likely an exception to every rule but this will be the case in 95% of the time.
Depending on the size, the same DuraTrac can be purchased in more than one load rating. I know for a fact 285/75-16 and the same size in 17" come in both D/8ply and E/10ply.

Yes the tire I'm looking at is actually the Duratrac. I had to do my research too, becasue I know some of them are not 10 ply and much cheaper. I do a lot of off road driving in the summer and need the reliability of 10 ply.

My tires I wanted (235 80 17) won't be in for a month! Anyone running the 285 70 R17 without wheel spacers or a lift?

Curious for the Duratrac your buying what was your price quote per tire? Also check the manufacture date on the tires its a 4 number code something like this 3014 which means the 30th week of 2014. Look and post what is on the side wall for thread and sidewall I think what is being said here they are 6 or 8 total ply rating... not actually a 6 thread plus sidewall .. sorta catchie wording. I know my Maxxis BH on the label it says 6 ply rating and if I remember correctly it did show 6 ply on the thread the Mickey Thompson are 6 ply rating also but haven't check to read what is stamped on the tire.

Hi Mr. White,

Paid 1150$-ish for the tires. I haven't received them yet but they are they will say load range E on the sidewall which is 10 ply. I know they do make regular tires which aren't LT.

I'm still wondering if anyone has specifically ran the 285 70 R17's without a lift or wheel spacers. I'm ok with a little rubbing for now and can trim the fenders if needed.

Just wanted to say I've mounted the 'pizza cutters'. They are really excellent! They look great on the jeep and are wonderful in snow and ice, really happy with my purchase, pictures to come.
