here is s few comments and questions 1<<>>IF ITS NORMAL for SOME jeeps to burn oil WHY isnt it on the sticker at the dealership?? 2011 jeep wrangler,,26000.00$ 5 year warrenty<<>>MAY burn oil may not??? 2<<>>if i buy a jeep that dosent have oil consumption,,then i have bought a perfect jeep,,how can someone who has to put in 1 quart of oil every 1000 kms have a PERFECT jeep aswell??? 3<<>>how can chrysler get away with selling jeeps that have this issue? shouldnt there be a recall?? 4<<>>how does someone suspose to know if there buying a jeep that has oil consumption? if i would have new MY JEEP eat oil,,,i would have bought a jeep that DIDNT eat oil,,it might allright in chryslers eyes,,,but its not in mine 5<<>>i borrowed 18000$,,i have to pay 350 a month for 5 years,,i feel as if im totally getting RIPPED OFF,,i dont have alot of money,,,im a working man,,house payments,,car payments,,wife and kids..why is it MY FAULT that my jeep is eating oil? all im saying is i REGRET not learning about oil consumption b4 i bought my jeep i had NO IDEA it even existed,,i wish the dealer would have told me,,im spending 20 grand on a jeep,,it MIGHT burn oil,,it MIGHT not becasue i would have NEVER HAD bought 1,,, im 33 years old,,my plan was to build my jeep up,,but this has got me so discouraged.. 1 good thing is the local jeep dealership SO FAR,,is 100% going to help me and support me,,,we have started the process of keeping track of the oil..my warrenty runs out sept 2012.. i also have another question<<>>ok if it comes back that my jeep is burning the proper amount of oil in chryslers eyes,,,WILL this effect my jeep?? or at some point<<>>CHANCES are after its off warrenty,,will i have to replace the engine?? HOW in the year 2011 can a company sell a 20/30 thousand dollar machine with this kind of trouble and NOT stand up under the warrenty is BEYONDDDD ME,,i feel so robbed sorry guys for complaining,,if i had loads of money i wouldnt mind,,but i gotta have this jeep for atleast 5 years,,its my to and from work,,everyday use vehicle |
Re: jeep wrangler oil consumption??heart broken
I believe some one is pulling a fast one on you. I have never heard of a vehicle that supposedly is healthy to be taking oil period. 1 qt in 1000 km is BS. I had an 89 xj it didn't take oil and had 200,000 km plus on it, my 03 tj doesn't take oil its got 135,000 km. I oil/filter change at 10,000 km in goes 6 litres and till the next oil change. Only thing I can suggest is you have them interested, make sure they do something about it b/4 the warrantee is out as this isn't normal.

Re: jeep wrangler oil consumption??heart broken
Thanks for the head's up. I assumed the dealer changed the oil when I bought it, but my oil light came on after 1,000 kms and the oil looks like crud. I haven't had it changed yet ( I got my Jeep about 6 weeks ago), but I did buy a quart of 5W20 and I'll put it in and get an extra quart when I get my oil change. Based on experience, burning oil isn't a big issue as long as you know about it and keep it topped up. My worst case was a long time ago, with a '69 Caprice, when we had to stop more often for oil than for gas! It got pretty far considering...

Re: jeep wrangler oil consumption??heart broken
There was an issue with certain engines built in Mexico. When they were assembled the gaps in the piston rings were lined up causing excessive oil consumption. Many of these engines have been replaced by warranty.
Check this forum thread.. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f96/3...mption-644150/ One suggestion is to check the oil level immediately after someone has changed the oil for you to ensure that it is indeed full. You could be 1 quart low if the change the filter and don't top up after starting.. Some people have switched to 5w30 which will reduce consumption.. |
Re: jeep wrangler oil consumption??heart broken
We have two JK's. My wifes is a 09 two X and mine is a two door 08 Rubicon. Both have the 3.8 V6 and have about the same milage (30k) Mine used oil until I added Lucas oil treatment but the wifes never did use oil. Odd , to say the least. Oh, I use 5W30 Pennsoil in both but mine I use one litre less plus the Lucas.

Re: jeep wrangler oil consumption??heart broken
My 08 Rubi uses oil too. Probably 1-2 litres between oil changes.
I mentioned it to dealer, they said it is fairly normal for this engine, but I am now on an oil consumption watch - not sure what happens after this.... |
Re: jeep wrangler oil consumption??heart broken
i read somewhere that chrysler in canada honors its warrentys WAY BETTER than chrysler in the USA????is this true or a internet myth?? also i read that ppl in the usa who buy second hand jeeps,,,say a 08/09 there power trained warrent dosent get passed onto them,,if so,,THAT should be a CRIME

I just got my dealer to change the oil yesterday. It was dry, and they put in 5.5 quarts. Now the watch begins... |

Which Lucas treatment do you use? Is it the "Engine oil stop leak"?

It says on the bottle " keeps old engines alive, new engines new" or something to that effect. I'm not a big fan of "treatments" but it does work in my 3.8L. Quite simply no oil additive will fix a mechanical problem. I was using about 2 litres of oil between changes. The wifes Jeep doesn't use any but I am using the Lucas in hers next change. |
Re: jeep wrangler oil consumption??heart broken
Did you guys check your PCV valves.. If the PCV valve is defective or plugged that will increase oil consumption as well..

Re: jeep wrangler oil consumption??heart broken
Something else I think is in error here you say ur warrantee is up in 2012 that's only 4 yrs its a 5 yrs warrantee on power train which would make it 2013 if my calculation is correct. Also I have always used 10x30 regular oil not semi or full syn its a little thicker in winter, but works for me might have something to do with the watery oil of a 5 weight something. Would like to know how your making out with your problem post here periodically wud u please

Re: jeep wrangler oil consumption??heart broken
Take it back! Some dealerships have a 30 return policy and if your not happy bring it back. I have never had to go through with it but im sure if you buy another one from them they might go for it.
I would be pissed ! Sorry about your luck, Hope it all works out for you |
