I'm new need help with wheels
 

I've got a 2013 jk and am looking for new wheels and tires. With stock suspension ,what is the biggest tire to run and what offset should I get for the rims. Mostly street driven with mild Offroading any suggestions for a wider stance and minimal rubbing

By JK, as opposed to JKU, you've got a 2 door, and since your looking at both new rims and tires, it's a moot point wether it's a Sport or a Sahara, and you'd have said Rubicon if you'd paid the extra money for that model! I have a 2011 Sahara which came with 18" rims, to put tires on those stock rims is major money. I choose to go with 16" aftermarket rims as the styles in this size are unlimited and the tires that fit very reasonably priced. Also, this combo makes it for a very aggressive look - lots of tire on the rim. When I first put my new tires and rims on, I was running no lift and my JK was not optioned with the factory tow package, which gives you stiffer rear springs and wee bit more room
in the back wheel wells. I choose Ultra (the company) Drifters (the model) in 16" X 8"(wide) with 4.8" of
backspacing. This backspacing is important, don't choose anything with less than 4.5" of backspacing! If you go to Tirerack.com (from whom I purchased these rims) and punch in the info for your jeep and say that you want 16" rims, you get pages and pages of options. They also have an app that lets your see the rims on your jeep (including you vehicle colour).
For tires, I'm running Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs, 285/75 X16" which are just a hair under 33".
They fit almost completely under the fenders, with just the sidewall lugs peeking out. My jeep is a
daily driver with a few local beach runs and a couple rock'n'rollers on some Nova Scotia loggin' trails.
I'm from southwestern Ontario and just got back from a weeks vaction out there. Loved back roading in the south shore area and being able to just hang a "left" and see where we went!
I have since swapped out the stock JK (2dr) springs for a set of JKU (4dr) springs from one with a tow package. It'll give you about an 1" of lift in the front and 3/4" in the rear when installed in a 2 dr, and everything has manufacture's # so no dealer can void your warrantee claiming you installed a lift kit.
Best of all, every JKU owner who has installed a lift kit, want's the "damn things outta my garage!" So if your handy with the wrenches or got buddies who work for beer (like me) it's a cheap lift kit.
Even with out the spring swap, I never touch metal with anything, anytime!

so going from 18" to 16" I am guessing the speedo had to be redone? what else needed to be done if anything...did you need to get sensors as well... just bought a '13 jku sahara and it has the 18" wheels but was looking at the crazy prices of 18" wheel and tires..yikes!!!

Yes you will have to purchase new TPMS's for each rim. (I have 5 as I purchased a matching spare and always rotate it in each oil change)
285/75 X 16 tires will throw the speedo out by 3km @ 100km, 5km @ 115km, (verified by my GPS) not so much as to be noticed at 100km but at 115 your pressing the 20 over envelope that attracts the coppers! If I hadn't just lost my primary hardrive and all my Explorer favourites, I'd be able to give you a website that allows you to punch in your stock tires and then what you want to run and it spits out what your speedo will be out by. 285/75's is 3%, that's from memory. Later tonight I'll try and refind it and post the website.
Other than "living with it", you'll have to purchase a hand held calibrater that plugs into the diagnostic port same as a code reader which will then enable you to reprogram the speedo (along with lots of other things). Dozens of manufactures make them, BullyDog, Superchip, etc.
The other option is to purchase a 16" tire with the same outside diameter as your 18" wheeled ones, which I believe is 255/70 (32"). The rim with be smaller but the tire will be the same size, and the speedo will read as normal.

Found the website, it's www.tire-size-conversion.com then go to the Tire Size Help menu on the left (beside all the tire band logos) and pull up the Speedometer calibration menu. Then you can punch in any size you want if you don't want 285's. Lots of other great calculators too.

The 2013 uses 433MHZ sensors, the sensors can be found here,for cheap! CLICK and check out the AVE pro cal module Click :thumbsup:
