Hello and Tire Pressure Sensors

Hey All, I’m new to the forum and I'm anxiously waiting for my 2011 Sahara Unlimited to arrive!! (It’s on the train on its way from Toledo).

I've found used (but essentially brand new) sets of Rubicon rims and tires for $1000-1500 to use for wheeling and summer use and I plan on using the stock set for winter.

My question is about the TPMS. If I get a set with the TPMS included, will I have to get the jeep calibrated to sense them... or the sensors themselves calibrated?? Or will they just work automatically since they are Jeep OEM? Also, once calibrated (if needed) will BOTH sets of rims and tires work without further need for calibration?

I'm so excited to join the club... FINALLY!!! I have always wanted a JEEP !!! I've been doing some intense workouts to get my waving hand ready!!

Thanks

It's all automatic. Just put them on and drive. It may take a few Km for the light to turn off. Personal I would use the BF's for wheeling and winter and the duel for day to day driving. The duel are not great in the winter. And I believe 2012 even LT tires will need to have the snowflake to be legal, I think I read that somewhere. Might have been on this site, if I remember Mr. White posted something about LT tires and winter driving.

Hello GHO
If they came from a wrangler you should not have any problem, and yes after a few KM the light will desapear if they are at the right pressure, 34 to 35 psi, no calibration needed.

As to answer to JeepTechOlllllO, winter tires rules is only in Quebec and will end 2014 for the LTs

Thanks... Do the Bridgestone Dueler A/T OWL on/off road tires that come on the Sahara have the mountain and snowflake on them?? Anyone? As if you needed an excuse to go out and look at your Jeep!! I think I might sleep in mine the first night (ha ha).

No they don't. BFG A/T and GY Duratracs have the snowflake..

As for the TPMS if they come from a different vehicle or are new, they may need to be paired to your vehicles computer in order to work. This is a flash required to be done by the dealer.

Last November I bought a used set of rims and tires for my 2010 Sahara. They came of a 2008 and had the TPMS installed. I installed winter (snowflake) Toyo tires and I had no issue with the sensors. The Wrangler read them and to tire pressure lights never came on. By the way, I got the rims (with the used tires) for only $450 total. Look around Kijiji and Craigslist for deals. Mine were of Kijiji.

Thanks for the advice against the Deulers... I was thinking they would be good for winter based on what a stealership in Ottawa said about them. My Jeep finally came in May 14 (ordered march 2). I decided to have the dealer put 275 75R 18 Goodyear Duratracs on right away. Absolutely love the Jeep and the tires!! The only thing I'm wondering about is why it has taken me this long to decide to get the vehicle I've always wanted!!

I'll post some pictures the next time I'm on the forum on my computer. Can't seem to attach photos from my iPhone.
