Headlight Upgrade

So, the stock headlights on the JK are junk... Can we all agree on that? Other forum pages tell me to spend $800 on an HID kit, but I'm sorry, that's not in the budget. I'm thinking about ordering the Delta replacement system from Quadratec.

I might be asking a stupid question, but does anyone know if my daytime running lights will still work if I order a replacement system from the USA? The US does not require daytime running lights like Canada does...

Gee whiz! I wondered when someone would finally agree with me. I've got a '89 F150 with headlights that make those on my '08 Wrangler Sahara work like a kids' toy.

if all you are replacing is the headlamp assemblies themselves and connecting into the existing wiring harness, then there should be no problem. the DRL system is controlled by the computer itself. we have done hid conversions at our shop and there was no change in the DRL operation.

guys, do youself a favour, these stock headlights suck big time. Head out and get yourself a set of either Hella or IPF E-Code H4 housings, and a pair of GE Nighthawk Platinums H4 bulbs. Then get your hands on a couple of H4 harness.

Now you have 2 options, simple and quickest way is to just cut off the stock H13 plug and splice in your new H4 plugs. Or if you're uncomfortable with cutting anything, you can do what I did. Order a pair of H13 male connectors and make an adaptor with the H4 harness and they'll just plug into the stock H13 harness.

The problem with the stockies is not the bulb, it has a real crappy reflector. the E-code housing have a directed beam and a crisp cut off. Trust me, I'm extremely happy with my results. The difference is night and day, I'd say they're 10 times brighter than stock. I have both the hella and IPF, I bought the Hella first and the IPF for comparison. I personally prefer the Hella, better cut off.

Northridge4X4 sells an IPF kit which is essentially the same as what i did, but you can head out tomorrow and collect all of this in one day so why wait for shipping to arrive?

hope this helps.

I did have an '02 chevy venture van and it had the same problem - crappy relectors, crappy light design period. I tossed a set of PIAA bulbs in there and I was happy.

That is a lot easier than changing out the lamp assemblies, cheaper too.

BUT, the new lenses will make you the happiest, at least you have the option.

I came across some IPF high output bulbs that fit in the stock housing. They will certainly be better then the stock bulbs. for the ultimate light I suggest just adding a pair of LightForce Strykers on the front.

Re: Headlight Upgrade

I just had a good drive last night with my new Hella replacement lenses and stock wattage bulbs. $105 and I installed them myself.

I am very happy.

The key, I believe, for a headlamp upgrade is to get really good low beams so you can see in traffic. 6" spots are wonderful - off-road only. I have found I even barely have the chance to use my highbeams on the highways around here because of traffic so my plan now is to get the best low beams I can for nighttime driving.

Does anyone else find that the stock TJ foglights really seem to piss off other drivers?? I love them for lighting up the sides of the road for deer and stuff, but I always get flashed with them on.
