Fuel Question
Just was wondering on the economy difference between a Sahara Unlimited and a Rubicon Unlimited? I can not find any 'solid' facts. Not that I am worried about the economy just don't want an absolute pig lol.
Thanks J |
Re: Fuel Question
Well, sounds like you have an open mind as Jeeps do like their fuel. I have a 08 SaharaJKU auto, 3:73's stock (just as she was off the Toledo line). On the hwy @ 100Km/hr call it an honest 10L/100Kms, and that's with a soft top up and AC on. (Hey I was just testing, top is usually down which does not help consumption. In town it's aprox 12L/100 KM
I don't own a rubi, but they will be slightly worse due to the 4:10 gearing and M/T tires (less roll resistance) I'll let the rubi owners chime in. Check this site lots of chat about MPG, biggest factor is the skinny pedel...go easy, stay our of the hammer lane....slow down enjoy the best ride out there. Good luck |
Re: Fuel Question
My 05 rubicon is no longer as you can see in my avatar. It was a pig on gas (stock 2 dr vehicle). I used between $35.00 - $50.00 per day around town driving - 200km avrg. I own two 2008 2 drs and 3 2010 2 drs all sports and one Sahara. Gas mileage is alot better than in Rubicon - I'd say I'm averaging $15.00 - $20.00 per day vs above.

Re: Fuel Question
I decided to go for the Rubicon , I figure you only live once and I would hate to buy the Sahara and want the Rubicon. Never really carded about fuel mileage just wanted to see if they are close.:beerchug:

WOW I did the math that's 5 two door Jeeps. SWEET! Good luck also to Deasoninc and your choice of getting the Rubi. You will not be disapointed, just we sure to wave. |
Re: Fuel Question
I own a 2010 JKU Rubi. I get about 11.5-12 L/100 km highway, and 15-16L/100 km city. But I tend to be a bit heavy on the gas at times. I see you went with the Rubi. Wise choice. With a bit of common sense, when those front and rear lockers are locked, shes an aweful impressive rig for a stock. Have fun, and please take her offroad. She loves it!

Re: Fuel Question
Hey ! I'll soon be able to tell you about fuel milage. We're heading from our home in Gananoque ,On to Daytona Beach Fl. Google Earth 2058K for the drive. We're leaving here after the wifes work 4:30pm Feb 9th. We have a 09 Wrangler X , auto , soft top , 2" lift with 285/70/17 Goodyears. It has 20,000k on it and just from owning it for the short time we've had it I look for a gas station at about 350k. Anyhow , I'll keep you posted of our progress !!

Re: Fuel Question

Anyhow , just sitting here waiting for the 9th to get going ! Keep you posted here ! Terry |
Re: Fuel Question
Just bought my 4dr Rubicon and I love it. The gas mileage isn't great but at least its better than it was in my 89 YJ. But I figured might as well get what I am going to love instead of what I am going to like.

Re: Fuel Question
OK here's a twist for ya.
Firstly, I am running 35's with stock 3:73 gears and have been running this combo for 2 1/2 years. The only engine mod is that I have a glasspack muffler mounted mid body. Has anyone else tried running Premium fuel? I run premium fuel but every 3rd tank I run regular. I have noticed a difference in torque i.e. engine seems to hold speed without the tranny kicking down as much and the fuel economy exceeds the extra cost difference of premium fuel. I get on average 100 more kilometers per tank. As much as I hate to pay $1.29 a liter for premium fuel, in the end it is still much cheaper. The next mods will be the 08 Viper Throttle body swap and the SuperChips Flaspaq. |
Re: Fuel Question
Good twist, never tried this...I'm game to see what happens.
Hey JTPhoto JK, "Glasspack" eh, bet that's music to the ears, sweet. |

Re: Fuel Question
Well I have had it for 4 days and I love it!! I can't believe what it will go through!! (snow) As far as fuel , I thought the way people talked that it was going to be horrible. I got five hundred K out of the FIRST tank of fuel. I have know problem with that at all. That kicks the crap out of my one ton diesel. And it's gonna only get better.

Re: Fuel Question
Hey Jeff....we're heading to Florida this Thursday ( pushed back from Wednesday) anyhow , I'm going to try that premium fuel on the way back. I'll keep detailed milage on the way down with regular fuel and do the premium on the way back. Should be interesting. I know one this is for sure , when I get back I'm getting a "chip" , throttle body spacer and a good scan tool to reflash the pcm for shift points etc..

Re: Fuel Question
I've got a 2010 4 door Rubi and love it. In the summer I got between 13-14 L/100km but in the snow and cold
17-18 L/100km but...who cares!!! It's a beast in the snow and fun to drive. And people who drive them wave at you. |
Re: Fuel Question
so deepdiveterry , how did your trip go? what where your results? I am lovin the rubi , I already have over 3000km on it.I look for things to get"into" around my acreage lol.
|
Re: Fuel Question
Hey ! I'm still in Stuart ,FL. until Monday or Tuesday. I'm not driving 24 hours straight home as my navigator (wife) flew home to go back to work a week ago. I'm debating on changing the spark plugs before I go as at idle I sometimes have a small "miss" but gee , it only has 23,000 kilometers on it.Anyhow I'll keep you ported !

Re: Fuel Question
Hey ddt,
There ARE worse places to be "stuck" than Stuart. We're expecting a sh!tload of rain/snow/mixed in the next 72hrs so hang tight. Not to suggest you'll have any problems dealing with that sort of weather with what you're driving BUT it's the "other" drivers. TO will get rain but Ottawa will get a mix with upwards of 15cm for late next week. Gan'....rain. Hey you don't have to shovel rain. That's from Environment Canada and you know how right THEY usually are. Stay warm....hahahahaha Peter |
Re: Fuel Question
Picked up your 2011 wrangler not too worried about the fuel mileage. If you are (i know you aren't more of a generalization) then I wouldn't purchase a Jeep.
Love it such a great ride. Does anyone know if the dealer is right saying 275 - 65 - 18's are the biggest you can put on the JK without a lift change??? |
Re: Fuel Question
Here's my mileage: we filled up at Alexandria Bay ,NY about 15 miles from our house on the USA side.
Next stop : Binghamton ,NY $37.01 11.08g/41.94L 256.1K 17mpg/16.4/100L Carlisle , Pennsilvania $39.62 12.58g/47.6L 312.2K 19mpg/15.2/100L Fredricksburg, Va. $37.50 12.50g/47.3L 293.5K 18mpg/16.1/100L Kenly, North Carolina $42.40 13.9g/52.6L 331.3K 18mpg/15.9/100L Florence, South Carolina $27.25 9.4g/35.6L 223.9K 18mpg/15.9/100K Savannah, Ga $36.50 11.7g/44.2L 288.7K 18mpg/15.9/100L Daytona Beach ,Fl $39.00 12.4g/46.9L 353.8K 21.0mpg/13.3/100L I have to tell you that my last range to Daytona Beach was generally in excess of 80mph and as you can see I got the best milage !! Still not sure which gears are in the Jeep but it's probably 3.73's ? I'm leaving Florida most likely 5am Monday morning and I'll post my milage from the way home using Premium fuel this time. Oh, the first tank of fuel I was in 4x4 for a while as the roads were terrible on Route 81 S |

Re: Fuel Question
tnt008 hit it right on the money.. I average around 12L/100 km hwy and 15-16 city... Got a 2010 JKU Rubi with the 4.10s, 6 spd manual. I try to pu$$yfoot it when possible and that usually helps but in the end, it is a Jeep so guzzling was expected. Enjoy your ride, its very impressive, even stock!

Re: Fuel Question
I am really likeing it so far. I havn't even really had a chance to take it offroad yet though lol. It works well in the snow!

Re: Fuel Question
My mpg truly sux. $50-$60 a week and I work 11km from home. NVR MIND, forgot the wife steals it every morning the other 4 working days. Stupid marriage license. How come that license doesn't expire every couple of years? No offense ladies. :ban:
