Duratrac Tires wobble after 2 balancing... 2010 wrangler 2 door sahara
I Purchased 4 new Duratrac tires from Canadian Tire about 2 weeks ago.
Could not find them anywhere, got them online from Canadian tire site... shipped in 4 days.. went to Canadian tire and had them install them on the NEW jeep steel 16 inch rims... brand new rims.... great guys very helpfull people. But on going home i found them to shake.... hmmmm when at 60Kh and again at 106Kh an hour.. I don't like it... so i go to a second Canadian tire and ask to have them checked and re balanced, please just in case there was an issue with original balance... ok i get the jeep back, ( wrangler 2010 sahara, 2 door) i was told they were a little off for the front tires but should be ok now... I still find that the jeep shakes at around 106 to 110 and also around 60 to 65 Kh the original tires and rims are 18 inch and smooth ride... should the Duratrac be smooth or is the wobble expected for such a clunky tire??? and as a final step should i go to a jeep dealer and let them do it $$$$$$ |
Re: Duratrac Tires wobble after 2 balancing... 2010 wrangler 2 door sahara
Not sure if there might be something else wrong here..BUT.. for me the best place to get tires balanced is Bernard Tire shop (St Hilarie) they do truck tires so for sure know what there doing. I had a slight shake I rotated them still had a slight shake went to the Bernard guy and no more shake. Another thought here is what are you doing at 110 with offroad tires, yet you say u have it at 60-65 also so very well could be balance.

Re: Duratrac Tires wobble after 2 balancing... 2010 wrangler 2 door sahara
there definately should not be a wobble with the Duratracs.

Any lift on it? When is the last time you had a wheel alignment done? How many km's on your jeep? do you still have a warranty or a gold plan? I'm a tech at a dealership in the west island, I am always ready to help a fellow Jeeper. If CT doesn't help you, I'll do what I can. |
Re: Duratrac Tires wobble after 2 balancing... 2010 wrangler 2 door sahara
JeepTechOlllllO I may follow up on you....( work down the street from that dealer...on sources i assume)
Its got 58k for mileage, its a 2010 manual with 3.8, no lift kits or any mods to it.. still all stock... never had alignment done, never had drift to left or right, and no excessive wear on my 18 inch front tires.. still under warranty... oh yea one more thing... its red. :) But i have found another issue...... :( it seems my Right front axel has spewed all its grease out all over the wheel well and mounts and everywhere.... :( leading me to believe that for some reason my axle seal is gone..... and i never took this baby off road...... maybe this may be causing the wobble, because when i turn it feels like there is a lot of fight... i used to drive a VW Golf and when the front CV joint went as they used to, it feels like that now for my jeep... maybe this is leading to the wobble.... jesus , this is to much for a new jeep..... even my f..in hand brake doesn't work half the fin time.....and I wont even talk about my oil consumption...... ughhhhhh by the way i bought the duratracs for i heard they are the best winter tire for the 2 door jeep and i live off island and prefer winter tires....... and i have a son in my Jeep and i don't want to end up in a ditch... |

MD41, I just have to chime in here. As the manufacturer, I can't comment on the tires and I must advise that the vehicle should be brought back to spec, if modified, for Chrysler to take a look... That being said, You are in great hands with Michael and Des Sources. If you need anything, see Richard or Ben and let them know I referred you but I'm sure Michael will make sure you have no issues. Let me us know how you make out. |
Re: Duratrac Tires wobble after 2 balancing... 2010 wrangler 2 door sahara
"returned to spec" clarify please...
This vehicle is stock never modified........ but i did change the wipers ......... am I to assume Jeep Canada considers placing winter tires on a vehicle constitutes "modification" that takes it out of warranty? oh but they are REAL METAL 15 Inch brand new JEEP rims.. please be clear on your thoughts... this is why i wont use 10w30 oil and will stay with the manufacturer suggested oil.... even though i may have to use more... |

If the rest of the vehicle is stock you should be ok. Let me try to explain the warranty a little further for you. A vehicle mod doesn’t void the entire warranty; however, it can void the systems affected by the mod. For example – if you install a performance chip, and you have engine failure, it’s not covered under warranty. However, if your door hinges are defective, they are still covered. These are guidelines set by engineering as the vehicles are designed/tested as delivered to you and any modification can be considered the cause. As far as winter tires are concerned, so long as they are within reason, they won’t change your warranty coverage (i.e. any damage caused from putting 72 inch tires on may not be covered  ) Hope this clears things up and like i advised, Des Sources will take great care of you! |
Re: Duratrac Tires wobble after 2 balancing... 2010 wrangler 2 door sahara

Re: Duratrac Tires wobble after 2 balancing... 2010 wrangler 2 door sahara
Hello Denny
Richard and Benoit say hello. Chrysler Canada requires the vehicle be in "spec" with manufacture. IE the tires are the same size as that stated on the label on the inside of the door, P255/70R18 or LT255/75R17 and the sport is P245/75R16. But your Jeep is so you'll have no problems, not that you would have anyway.. later Michael |
Re: Duratrac Tires wobble after 2 balancing... 2010 wrangler 2 door sahara
I've got 2011 2dr Sahara with Canadian Tire Dura-Tracs, they were the best price I could find (locally), however Skippy, their tire installer, was getting NO WHERE NEAR my custom rims. Went to my trusted local tire shop and had him install them. There's no shake or shim, even hauling ass down
the TransCanada (#401 in my area), so there is definitely a problem somewhere. My dealership has done warranty work (leaking freedom top - go figure) and even rotated the Dura-Tracks (285's) on the custom rims (Ultra Drifters) and never said a word about Voided Warranty. You do sound like your in good hands with Mike for trying to identify/correct the problem, I would never recommend anybody to take anything to our local Canadian Tire garage, but that's just our store. Skippy's never gotten a parts order right the first time at the counter, so I sure as heck ain't lettin' him under my hood. |
Re: Duratrac Tires wobble after 2 balancing... 2010 wrangler 2 door sahara
I have 35"Duratracs on mine and no issues.
I would go with the ujoint. |

Re: Duratrac Tires wobble after 2 balancing... 2010 wrangler 2 door sahara
I don't know if you mentioned it but did they use balancing beads? I bought these tires installed on 18" rims and there was a wobble at 105+ but then I got the tire place to re-install the tires with stick on mounts and it was all fixed!

Re: Duratrac Tires wobble after 2 balancing... 2010 wrangler 2 door sahara
Warranty is also dependent on your relationship with the dealer. We have 2 lifted Jeeps and a lifted RAM all on 35s and have never had any claims denied...

Re: Duratrac Tires wobble after 2 balancing... 2010 wrangler 2 door sahara
Hello
You also forgot to ask for me, that's oK the tech right beside me(one of the best in the garage) worked on it. he replaced the seized u-joint. As for doing any kind of road test today to check for a wobble that is out of the question. For everyone reading this that's because we are in the middle of a blizzard today. take care Michael V |
Re: Duratrac Tires wobble after 2 balancing... 2010 wrangler 2 door sahara
well i finely read your post.... and its very understandable that a road test wasn't about to happen....
I like the service i received, went in with 3 issues, Tire wobble or shake, understand there was NO way to even verify this as to much snow on road... i would be a fool to even suggest that some one try.. so that's ok... second issue was my darn airbag lite is always on.... I don't think it was addressed... as light still is on..... horn works, turn signals work, etc.. so i think the clock spring is ok.... was on the work order..... and finally i advised them of the OIL issue, checked my oil 2 weeks ago and it was EMPTY, yuppers, filled her up and made an appointment with you guys.... that's 3 months of use, average 400 k a week... maybe less. most times dont use it on weekends.... so that was addresses by placing me on a OIL watch... but interesting, on the bill i see part number... and changing the u-joint solved my intermittent steering issue where it was kicking back coming out of a turn... thanks.. it turns now like it did when i bought this baby... lets wait for the roads to clear and i will try and take it for a test to see if she still wobbles down the road......... Thanks will keep u informed.. |
Re: Duratrac Tires wobble after 2 balancing... 2010 wrangler 2 door sahara
OK here we go........ made appointment to have the dealership look at my shake as I drive on my new Duratrac,s,,, to be fair , there was NO way they could have looked at my wheels on the 27th of dec as we were having the BEST snow storm here in Montreal in 20 years.... but they did change out the u - Joint...:)
asked them to look into the AIRBAG light as it was always on...., it seems they did not address this then.... hmmm, also asked to be put on oil watch... was told i was now on oil watch due to my oil disappearing..... So they changed my oil, and filter... so I left on dec 27 with full oil and new Filter :) ... Now we move to last night... .Mondaty night Jan 14... I know i am taking my jeep in to the garage Tuesday morning... for the follow up on the wheels and AIR BAG light..... so I check my oil as I should.... HOLY ---- BATMAN..... I am down ... how can this be... not even 3 weeks... yes only 2 and a half weeks since new oil change and I am below the SAFE lines... HOW CAN THIS BE.... hmmm maybe i should tell this....when i get there in the morning... so now I tell them this,,, and WHAT THE FCK the guy behind the counter says to me.... WHAT... that's not good that you you should need oil.. it says here that you just had a OIL change... oh and he says... why didn't the other guy put you on OIL WATCH..... WTF.......so I say what...... wooooooow this is what was supposed to be done last DEC...... so I bring up Your Name, Micheal.... the guys says oh ya he is a nice guy .... THAT'S IT.. I say can I talk to him please... the guys looks at me as if he is asleep...... so Now my jeep is at the dealership and I am here at work :).......oh yea hand break no longer works.... says its out of warranty by 2 or 2 days..... hmmmmmmm But hey since I made the appointment in Dec about the air bag... it might be covered.... will have to wait and see on that one..... oh Boy... I have no idea what to expect at this time...... Stay Tuned Batman....... |
Re: Duratrac Tires wobble after 2 balancing... 2010 wrangler 2 door sahara
well now, I like to wait a few days until things settle down and I get to use my jeep... before i close out on issues..
The first thing i must say is that I am seriously happy with the service I got at Sources Jeep Chrysler In Dollard Des Ormeaux. I work In It and know first hand how customers can and will be. I worked in a Help-desk environment for 5 years, worked my way all the way up and on the way I had to deal with customers that were just plain pieces of sh%t. So with that info I like to deal nicely and quietly with service personal.. they get enough abuse with out mine..... No service department is perfect, and errors are to be expected, if you cant handle this statement your role as a Supervisor will be limited... so i don't expect answers or solutions all the time.. now on with the UPDATE.... very happy, I now have a Handbrake..... WOW thanks, ever since day one my hand brake was kind of sketchy.... brought to the attention of my original dealer, out in Voudreal, even left my Jeep there over night for them to fix...... they filled me full of sh*t about this issue and others, If they read this, I will never deal with you people again. They changed out my Front right U-joint in DEC, and now this time changed out my Left U-Joint.... I am lost as to why my u-joints would lock up and need to be changed... hopefully some on can explain why these things would fail.... ( maybe there can be some maintenance i should do on them for the future... suggestions please) I still get a shake when up to 104 to 108 but what the hell i guess i can live with it for the winter, Must be the Duratracs,,, its not even near as much as it was, thanks... Air bag is now WORKING, what i did not know is that for the last year i Had NO airbags... i did not know that when the light was on it mean that the airbags were disabled... wow... not good, but now i feel safer, thank you... as for oil.... and my Oil consumption... its going to be a wait and see thing.... i will be checking it every week..... again Thanks to you guys over at Sources jeep... Me :) |
Re: Duratrac Tires wobble after 2 balancing... 2010 wrangler 2 door sahara
