Do it yourself Hardtop Dolly
3 Attachment(s)
Here all the information you will need to construct a hardtop Dolly. I built one and it works excellent. It is nice with the casters as you can move it around your garage if needed. As well as it stores the hardtop standing up therefore saves a lot of room in the garage. This is borrowed and is not my design. That's my disclaimer. This is a must have and works well with the 4 door hardtop as well.

Re: Do it yourself Hardtop Dolly
Nice, but I am weary about putting all the weight on the rear window area (it does take less space) I put mine outside on 2x6 the length plus a few inches board sitting on 2 house bricks high and put a box of moth balls in the opening to keep animals away. But then I don't have a garage.

Re: Do it yourself Hardtop Dolly
Good job.. As you can see from the photos, the weight is actually on the body of the top and blocks are under the hinges. There is no weight on the rear window. This is exactly like the commercial ones..
I have a very large garage so I have mine on Saw horses and my daughter's 2 dr hardtop under that. This takes about the same room as 2 roofs standing up in racks. |
Re: Do it yourself Hardtop Dolly
The dolly works great. I use the same plan to build the dolly a month ago when I picked up my 2011 sahara. The fact that I can roll the hardtop within the garage easily is great. If i am going to do it again, I would use a bigger wheels instead of the 2" ones - even though the 2" ones work.
The only things that gone wrong was my 12V black and decker drill ran out on me one third of the way into the project. I was upset so I went to home depot and pick up a $68 12V li-on Rigid impact driver and finish up the job in no time. |

Re: Do it yourself Hardtop Dolly
I use it for my 11 4 door. I am sure it will work for 09 as well.

Re: Do it yourself Hardtop Dolly
But I do strongly suggest that whoever builds it, use a bigger wheel. May be 4". It will allow you to push the hardtop outside of the garage much easier.
