how do I remove the soft top and frame. I can't find any reference to this in the manual or on the CD. Also, is the 2 door only a 4 seater?

Removing the rails is pretty easy. On the top of your rollbar where the plastic rails are there are two large handles which are used to screw in the bolts. 2 on the driver side, 2 on the passenger side. 2 towards the front window, 2 in the middle (4 door). Unbolt these and lift off the plastic rails. Once off your softtop will no longer mount.
Top will now fold back and down...

Now perhaps you meant removing the complete frame. Here is a cut and paste I found for you:

If you are talking about completely removing the top, you will need to remove the screws from each of the knuckles to the pivot bracket. (this is where your bars for your top connects to the roll bar.)
Once the screws are removed from each knuckle, you will need to take a rubber mallet and carefully tap the knuckles from the outside edge to remove the bow assembly from the pivot bracket. Then you will be able to completely remove the top from the Jeep.

Re: Do really need soft top ???

Living in 'the big city'...I decided against the soft top...even the dual top option...since one person with a utility knife can TOTALLY destroy it in a minute! Sad...

I love the idea of a soft-top Wrangler...but, it's more romantic than practical when you live in the city...I think I'll be very happy pulling off the two front panels on my 'Freedom Top'...and knowing that, if I REALLY felt 'into it'...I COULD pull off the rear...take off the DOORS, and fold that windshield!!! Nice to know it's possible, even if not practical...

cheers...

I got a soft top with my new 2012 but still unsure if I want it. I don't really have a great place to store the hard top over the summer. Would hate to damage it. I was thinking of selling it but not sure how much its really worth.

Off the top of my head, I thin k they are roughly around the $500 mark.

I'm getting conflicting stories about what I can sell it for. Your saying $500. The dealership just told me I could get $1000 to $1300. The Mopar.ca website says a factory replacement top is $2170 (ouch!). I'm sure Mopar is over priced.

All these price points. Feels like I'm playing The Price is Right.

Go for 1500.

$500 is unheard of unless there was something wrong with the hardtop. I've seen them as high as 2k at one point. Hardtops are hard to come by.
