DEI 508D Proximity Motion Sensor

Hey everyone,

I was just curious if anyone has installed the DEI 508D Proximity Motion Sensor in a 2011 or 2012 JKU? The ideal location for this sensor to be installed is in the middle of the vehicle, my installer told me there was no room anywhere in the console between the seats so he put it up under the front dash which is not an ideal location at all.

Thanks,

Chris

Is this an aftermarket alarm system or does it integrate with the stock theft deterrent system? Where can I buy/get installed and how much please?

Its just a sensor that i believe you can integrate with anything. I had a Viper 5901 Alarm / Starter combo installed in my jeep, I then added this sensor and put it in the console box in between the seats.

If someone walks within 1 foot of my jeep, it cherps... if they stay there and keep moving, the alarm goes off. If someone reaches in to my jeep, the alarm goes off straight away.

Over all, im pretty happy with the results so far.

That's exactly what I need! I've got a small sub box in the back, come summer with the top off I don't want someone thinking they can just jump in and take stuff out.
Cheers

I'd personally not leave a sub box in an open jeep come summer time. The loud alarm might prevent people from looking around through everything but I don't think it would prevent someone from a quick snatching of an exposed sub.

The vehicle I just traded in for my jeep had a $3k sound system in it. My Jeep's stereo will forever be stock so I don't have to worry about it. I'll take the open air of a convertible over some extra bass any day.

With that being said, I may put in the uconnect module so i can get some hands free going

I've been thinking about that, and ways to bolt down the box.
Thanks.

I had one of those before. Whenever we turned the microwave on in the kitchen the alarm system would go off. LOL. Anyway, there should have been plenty of room for it to fit under the console between the shifter and the cup holders.

Ive since moved it to around that area, it is working much better now.

I went to my very reputable installer the other day and asked about these add on units integrating with the factory alarm. He told me they actually used to install them but had lots of problems with false alarms. Got tired of dealing them and won't touch them anymore. That being said he is entitled to his opinion. I would love to hear from someone who gets one installed in their Jeep.

Re: DEI 508D Proximity Motion Sensor

Ive had mine in for a couple weeks. At the beginning, it was pretty touch and go but I suspect it was because of the poor install location. People walking 20 feet in front of the jeep would set it off. I now have it installed in the top storage compartment of the center console box. I wired it to go there, and just stuck it with some double sided tape. This way, nothing else will ever be put on top of it to block it's magical aura. If you put it below the storage box, items you put in the storage could impede it.

Since the relocation, it seems to work how I would expect. If you walk within about one foot of my jeep and hang out there, it will cherp at you. If you stick around and continue to move, the alarm will sound. That is due to the outter proximity zone. Now, the entire reason I bought it is for the inner proximity zone... If you stick your arm in my jeep, through a window or the trunk, the alarm goes off immediately. This one, has worked every time ive tested it. I dont mind if the outter one is a bit flakey, it's the internal one that I truely care about.

I have no doubts that I'll get the odd false alarm with this thing, but that doesn't bother me much. Honestly I don't even always arm it, I just arm it in places where I feel it's necessary like a movie theater parking lot.

Anywho, so far, so good.

Just saw this thread I have my installed under the rear seats on the floor, I had problems at first with false alarms, you even look at it the wrong way and it would go off :) I'm sure my neighbors really appreciated it. Anyways after tweaking with the inner and outer sensor's I have got it the way I like it, I really only arm it in the summer when I have the softy on.
