Choosing Rock Rails
 

Hey guys, I'm researching and shopping around for rock rails for my 2012 4 door JK. So far through research my list keeps growing rather than shrinking :S
Anybody have experience, or strong opinions about any of the following types (or have ANOTHERRRR I should add to my list of considerations :S)?? Also, from what I think I know (correct me if I'm wrong), it would be stronger and "better" to get rock rails that are frame mounted . . . . is this true? I reallllly like the Rocker Knocker look, however they are only body mounted . . . and this idea scares me lol :S The Billy's are aluminum on the outside with steel built into them at structurally important points (i think. . .) which also scares me :S

I would like to submit the suggestion for Teraflex's Aluminium rock sliders, they are a little more function over "hardcoreness" as they add a step but they also drill right into the body so there very strong and can definitely take a hit. Bonus they come available powder coated which is really nice, but if they just bolt in underneath it's my understanding that they are not as strong and are able to snap or bend.

I am planning to get mine installed this month or next month, I want to get the teraflex ones for my 2 door.

I got the evo slidders welded onto my jk and they have held up real good I beat the living crap outta them and they still their

I've decided to go with the EVO's . . . . I am way too afraid of drilling into the body. I've also heard of some horror stories about body mounted rails that can end up mashing up your doors. It seems to me that welding to the frame would be the strongest option and I want my rails to be able to handle anything that might happen. I can't go with aluminum because steel is definitely stronger . . . despite the obvious weight and cost benefits of aluminum.

I just spoke to JustJeeps, and it seems like the rock sliders I want (Teraflex aluminum sliders) I'll have to wait a month for parts then a month to book an install appointment.. very disappointing, anyone else have any other options that doesn't require me to wait until May?

What's wrong with waiting till May? You won't be wheeling until late may or early just due to the extra snowfall that we're had this year. The ground and trails will have too much water content and we'd be destroying the trails if we went out on them too early. So just order the rails you want and and book the install appointment for approximately the time they are supposed to arrive

thos are nice looking rails, but the ones i picked out double as a step. So there going to be extremely functional also.

the place i was looking at getting the install done won't book an appointment until the part is in, so i'll have to wait for the part to come in THEN book the appointment and wait further more. I want them for more then going offroad, there also very functional as a side step. Not to mention will stop my tires from spraying the side of my jeep everytime i drive. I get these spatters because the tires will spray up the fenders catch most of it, but still quite a bit gets through.
