Default CB / VHF Radio Installation

Has anybody got any brilliant ideas where to install a CB on a JK? The only place I can see is side mounted to the plastic shroud surrounding the shifters. (Driver's side).

Any comments?

Aren't CBs a little passe now? No offence, just asking because everybody I know use those GMRS radios tuned to the same channel. The whole convoy is constantly yakking until they have to take a break to change batteries. A lot more convenient too imo.

CB's are still in use, GMRS radio's are good but I've found that you end up with the problem as you say of "everyone constantly yakking". A lot of wheelers are now going and getting their ham radio licence and mounting one up for longer distance/ clearer comunications in case of emergency or just chatting with fellow hams after a day of wheeling.

Same here, the CB is pretty much always on and the Cobra that I've got has the NOAA channels so it's good for a reasonably accurate local forecast wherever I'm at.

With the ban on hands free devices in Ontario now I have a base set up at home and radios in the family vehicles for easy contact around town. They are still good for road reports as well as use on the trails. Just my 2 cents

What a doofus! Don't you realize that tall mountains and thus no CB reception only applies to B.C.?

As a HAM operator I agree that the CB is less effective and maybe not as many wiz bang features and capabilities as a HAM but, generally speaking it is more effective than a GMRS/FRS....but....not everyone has the funds nor the desire to make the step into licencing and such to own/run a HAM. I run a HAM, CB and an GMRS/FRS in my Jeep to leave no stone un-turned to ensure that I can communicate with all the parties on the trail. As far as a GMRS/FRS goes a CB will far out reach them when properly tuned and with a good quality antennae...oh and no batteries to change either. Most clubs around here have made the CB mandatory in all trail bound rigs and strongly suggest getting into HAM just because of the communication capabilities that it offers in remote areas. But from a rig to rig stand point a CB is hard to beat for trail communications and the pricing certainly makes it attainable for even the "cheapest" of Jeepers....
Consider this....does the Logging truck or oil tanker have a GMRS/FRS that they talk on on the haul road when calling out mile markers....nope it is usually a commercial or CB radio. So if you are on a GMRS/FRS other that seeing thier grill comming around a corner on the way to the trail head how do you know where they are to pull over out of thier way!!!
