Buying tips?
 

I live in Calgary, Alberta and I am looking to buy a 2013 Jeep Sahara or Rubicon unlimited. Any buyer beware or tips on what I should be looking for? What should I be paying out the door at the end of the day? I will be visiting a few dealerships in the Calgary area. Any feedback would be helpful, thank you.

I just bought my first Jeep as well . . .
It depends what you want/plan to do with it.
If you're going to jack it up (lift) and do lots of other mods then I'd start with the Sahara. If you plan to keep it mostly stock aside from a few small add ons then go with the Rubicon. If you spend the extra money on the Rubicon and then do tons of mods to it you end up swapping out all the stuff you paid extra for in the first place.
I bought the Sahara (unlimited, manual) and paid low $40,000's taxes and everything in fully loaded (ex. Nav, heated seats, rust proofing, etc.). And I'm now in the process of getting a 3.5" lift with 35" tires, front drive shaft, bumpers, etc.
I will only do occasional off-roading, however, when I do go off-roading I want to be able to pretty much anything I want. I also like the look of the big jacked up Jeep, so that's why I made those choices. For what I will actually do I could likely have gotten away with 2.5" lift and 33's and even a Sport, however I wanted to make sure I didn't spend all that money and then later want to upgrade and be disappointed . . . which would lead to spending tons more money. Doing it the way you really want it the first time, in my opinion, is the way to go.
Keep asking questions on this forum . . . I'm very new to the Jeep world and there are a ton of very helpful people on here that give some great advice and will prompt you to do further research to questions you didn't even think to ask in the first place.

I just bought a 2013 JKUR with auto, soft top only, with the fewest of Rubicon options. Did not wanna pay for extra unneccesary stuff...Got it for an even $33,000 in Edmonton.before taxes...

Thank you for the replies. I think I am leaning towards the Sahara unlimited, that was a great point about if I plan on adding mods later on down the road why buy a Rubicon to take off parts I paid extra for.

In 2010 I did the same thing and bought a Sahara.

In 2013 when I went to change the Diff gears and add lockers I was looking at
$3500.00 cash in one shot. I re-looked at my choice.

I went back to the dealer and decided I liked the monthly plan better the the one shot deal.

Now I have a 2013 Rubi with the 3.6 Eng the 4:10 gears, locker in both diff's.
The 34'' tires & 3.5 inch lift. and I am one happy camper. Power is great no diff gear change required and lockers already installed.

Now the money I didn't spend on my toy now is going to a Family Vacation,
unfortunately with out my toy,

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure when you do a lift like that on a Rubi, they not take the lockers off anyways....?

Lockers come stock with the Rubicon and the lift has nothing to do with them.
It all works together.

Everybodies different.. I'm happy with 3.73 on my 08 with 35s, but thats me.
I also had the same opinion, I bought a Sahara realizing that the Rubi equipment would be stripped off in the future anyway. When you get serious its about more then just e lockers and 4.10, its more like pull the front diff and replace with a PR44, ARB lockers and 4.88s.
But again that is me and I am very impressed how the Sahara has stood up the last 5 years..

Highly recommend carcostcanada.com you build the jeep (or any car), on their site, it generates the dealer invoice (wholesale price) including all Chrysler benefits rebates etc. Then it recommends the dealer that is asscociated with them which means that dealer agrees to work with those prices. Bottom line is it's as close to no dicker sales we can get here. Think the service cost was like 50$ for 12 quotes. It also holds your quotes or builds and notifies you when there are price changes. Right now is the highest rebate Chrysler gives 3250, I think it happens again in September when they want to clear out the '13's expires, 31st though so if you haven't bought, you got a couple days to do so. But back to the quote system, if you build Jeep and do nothing this system will automatically notify you whenever there is a change in the price.

Listen to rockrail, carcostcanada.com is the best place to start. It allows you to start the negotiation process at wholesale -- so go to a few different dealers and get them competing for your business, and I bet at least one of them is willing to sell at well below their cost in order to make their numbers and get that big fat bonus from Chrysler. I just picked up a 2013 rubicon unlimited that I ordered from factory with some options for 29,900. This was also after a TD employee discount so look in to if your employer has any affiliate program -- saved me over 1500.
