I am looking to replace the stock bumpers on my rubicon. I dont need rock clearance but want to be able to go through the bush so a medium to full length bumper with winch is what I am looking for.
I have been reading through bumper reviews and am still on the fence. One thing I have seen is the move to aluminum for weight savings, whats the thought on aluminum vs steel for durability ?

Any thoughts ?

 

I would not consider anything but steel for a bumper.

 

I agree with oldfart on this. Aluminum might be ok for crossing your lawn but not for the bush (IMHO). I don't really get the weight saving idea. Warn makes some nice full bumpers.

 

I agree 100% with "Oldfart" believe it STEEL is the only way to go. I just got prand in the rear by some guy with quite a good sized vehicle, he hit the bumper pushed it in as far as the trailer hitch, the spare tire bent his hood and the bumper removed his grill and a good percentage of his front end. If it had been the stock bumper or even aluminum for light weight he might have been in my backseat. I say what saved me was my steel bumper even though it got mangled. Go for STEEL

 

I was looking at the Smutty built Atlas bumper set but the weight of just the front bumper is around 230 lbs. So I will look into another set, ARB makes a set I like.

Anyone have any experience with a rear tire carrier bumper, not necessarily ARB ?
