Ball Joints and U-Joints...

So I was in the same situation as almost every Jeeper eventually finds themselves... Death Wobble!

Turns out my issue was with Ball Joints... which lead to issues with my u-Joints. So got them swapped out and went with the US Alloy Heavy Duty units.... soooooooo much more relaxing to drive knowing the rig isn't going to start shaking violently!

Took a few more hours then I expected... would recommend that you plan on two days if you are going to do this job on your own... just in case!!!

Throwing a SkyJack Stabilizer on tomorrow... hope it isn't as much work as the Ball Joints!

Re: Ball Joints and U-Joints...

I have been having some death wobble issues myself lately... took the GC into the mechanic's on Monday to get new upper and lower ball joints on the passenger side as well as a new half shaft on that side...cost almost $800 parts, tax and labor. when he pulled the pass. upper ball joint, the damn thing came out in two pieces! lol

was out driving today and it started happening again! I think I will be putting in new upper and lower on the driver's side in the very near future. I think I will also order a bushing kit and replace the track bar bushings, etc.

after watching the process this time around, I think I will do the driver's side myself. I have a heavy duty clamp I can use to press them in and out with, doubt I would need to put the heat to it, and my 300 ft lb impact wrench should manage it nicely. I just hope it holds up long enough for me to get the parts money together, lol...

You can go to Parts Source or CDN Tire and they will loan you the ball joint clamp.
Lot easier to use than a standard 'C' clamp.
Have fun.

...thanks, Airdale! I forgot all about the "loan-a-tool-a-tool" programs! Glad you reminded me, I would have cussed and cursed for some time with what I would have to use otherwise...this will make the job easier, lol

...famous last words, eh? lol
